It probably doesn't really fit in here but I think we could have a discussion about other computer games with such a good cyberpunk atmosphere as uplink.
I'm trying to start by mentioning "Rise of the dragon". It must've come out in the early nineties. The graphics are surely outdated but I think it has lost nothing of its atmosphere. I really like the soundtrack (I mean the Amiga soundtrack rather then the MIDI files on a PC). The story is perhaps a little bit too short but it's great that you can solve most things in a totally different way. There are even multiple endings (at least two).
If any of you knows games like that (it needn't be just adventures) go on -post them here!

Nice sig. I recommend Shadowrun (get it from Home of the Underdogs - they have both the Genesis and SNES versions!)

I think it's been pretty much a neglected genre, in the CRPG world anyway.  The sword-and-sorcery genre is FAR more popular -- perhaps because it's more heroic, while cyberpunk normally aims to be quite dark, gritty, amoral, and violent.

If you can get people together for a PNP RPG game, you might want to take a look at SJG's "Cyberpunk" game (if it's still available, that is).  I haven't played any PNP RPG for several years, but of the ones I did, that probably fits the bill the best.  There's also "Shadowrun" (FASA, at least at that time); note, however, that SR also folds magic into the mix so it's not a "pure" 'punk game.  SR characters are also potentially far more "munchkin"... from what I remember, the included archetypes are vastly less powerful than what you can design in terms of walking tanks.  Cyberpunk characters die far more easily and realisticly.  ;)

I actually used to play Shadowrun PNP RPG a few years ago. It was okay but I remember it being pretty violent ;)
The Shadowrun universe has one big flaw -as you mentioned it: magic. Personally I like the atmosphere, somber, gothic, world controlled by big companies and so on. But it's all kind of spoiled if there are elves and dwarves running around...

P.S.: I probably shouldn't mention my first character was an elf :)
