Hypocrites

Alright. I've gone through the forums a bit reading a few various threads about how warez is so evil and etc.
It seems quite odd to me that so many people who dont use pirated software would congregate in a single place. Since this is unlikely, I am going to assume that people like to bash on the "warez" folks, but then probably are using a pirated copy of Windows or Photoshop... software far more valuable and that took far greater effort than a small game they so fervently defend against "warezing <insert swear word here>".

Windows came with my box; I don't think it's worth downloading. My Photoshop is perfectly legal thanks to my dad; if i couldn't get ahold of it, i'd use something like gimp.
That's like saying it's odd so many people who don't shoplift would congregate in the lines at a grocery store, and bash on the actua; thieves. Lay off the working man.
What kind of person, let me ask you, would consider somehting like this if he wasn't a warezer himself? Who would suspect shoplifters all around him but an actual shoplifter?

First off, I'm not saying I'm a warez person, but there is a lot of difference between pirating Microsoft, who don't need the money, and overcharge anyway, and Introversion, who have made a very good, origional game, which is reasonably priced.

It's probably because of the late hour, but i fail to see your point Canthack.
Warez "folk" get bashed on this forum just because they're plain stupid. Now don't misunderstand me, i'm not saying that everyone who uses warez is a dumb f***, i'm only saying that who, in his perfect mind, comes asking for a warez (hence free) version of a game on the company's official game forum?
Now guess what, (surprise, surprise) great part of the members of the OFFICIAL game forum actually PAID for their copy so what are the so-called "warez folk" expecting? Simpathy?

What im saying is I am a member of many online communities.. this game has seen a huge deal of popularity amongst people who do not like paying for software, script kiddys, linux elitists and such. Maybe it's just the IRC crowd, but it seems to me that this game appeals very much to the hardcore geek, and I've been floating around the net long enough to know that the majority of hardcore geeks do not buy the majority of their software. (Some games are an exception due to a competent serial number system with server verification). So yes, the people begging for the game on this board are quite stupid. But everyone getting their Holier Than Thou attitude mode activated are is just out of line. (yes I warez stuff, and no I havent warezed this game, and mainly because the demo did not interest me.)

OMFG, I'm a "hardcore geek"
ROTFLMARO
I, like the majority of this forums members, BOUGHT the game so any halfwit that comes on this forum asking for the game free is bound to be targetted.
It's MY holier than thou attitude and I'll flex it if I like.

There ARE "geeks" with honor and integrity, "CantHack". I pay for the commercial software I use. I've even bought software that I DON'T intend to use, like PartitionMagic -- it's there as an insurance policy.
Of course, I'm a harsh, ruthless being with no belief in the sanctity of victimhood or any "entitlements" and exactly zero tolerance for flagrant stupidity -- and publically requesting cooperation in a crime certainly qualifies.

"I tell you three times..."
There are people here who say that theres a different in pirating software from Microsoft and from some smaller company.
This is a perfect example of hypocrisy. Its like stealing from a supermarket while chastising someone who stole the same item from the mom and pop grocery store in your small home town.

Hey, CantHack, you say " the demo did not interest me" back up the thread aways.......
Then why you posting in this forum?
Surely being "a member of many online communities.. " you have "better" things to do with your time!
Or, dare I suggest it, do I detect the noisome smell of TROLL?

That stench drove me away after my first post
CantHack: I find your similie lacking somewhat. It's more like the difference between grabbing a loaf of bread from an acres large bread warehouse, and stealing some from the nice old man who runs that tiny bakery down the street.

There is a difference, in my opinion. The supermarket factors in theft as a statistic. The small grocer cannot survive if there is much theft.
BTW, there is a difference between theft of a product and piracy. Yes, Piracy is theft, but the store actually loses an investment (the product). A big software company like MS don't lose anything when pirated. This is more moraly questionable with a small company like Introversion.

Theft is theft.
You say Microsoft doesn't lose any money to piracy.
And Introversion does? I'm willing to bet that the percentage of pirated copies is similar between the two companies. MS may be bigger, but also has far more people warezing their stuff. More people warez MS products than have even heard of Uplink.
And I'm in the forum because I was scavenging for links to similar but perhaps better games, when I came across this warez stuff.

Sure, Microsoft loses money to piracy. That's a factor. But you have to put in the spread of loss as well. As the percentage is the same, where does that money come from, in theory? Say, as a simple example, employee's paychecks. Every copy of Microsoft I warez, someone doesn't get a raise. Call losses to warez 15% (again for simplicity). What's 15% divided among thousands of employees worldwide?
Think about introversion. How many employees? How much smaller of a paycheck does Chris take home for every copy warezed? (None of this is true, it's just an example. The principle still applies.) It's all about spread. Microsoft can take the 15% piracy a lot softer than Introversion.
And lets get one thing out in the open right now: Uplink is an innovation, there's nothing like it yet.
What do you know, you're still here. So, uhm, why?
