Who's with me?

I don't want to have a debate about how right and wrong Warez is (even though it IS wrong). i just want to know who's on my side (and more importantly, who's against me).

By the way, did it not occur to you warez people that the reason prices are high on games is because YOU make it so?

1. Warez people copy game.
2. Companys' lose loads of money because of this.
3.Companys' have to increase prices for their games so they can stay in business.

I read an article somewhere (maybe PC Gamer: THE BEST COMPUTER GAMING MAGAZINE EVER!) that said if there was NO warez  then most games would cost about £15-20 when first released.

Summary: Warez people use warez because of high prices. Games have high prices because of warez people. One's not going to stop until the other stops. It's a vicious circle.

Umm, I'm with you on principle, but what about web sites such Home Of The Underdogs? You know, Abandonware. They preserve games that would otherwise die out! They only make games available for download that aren't available anywhere, including through the publisher! And I will admit, I have found some great games fromthat site. If I get flamed for saying so, fine. But bear in mind these games would be forgotten about. In fact. I found out about Uplink through Underdogs. It was in their 'Hall Of Belated Fame' for games that haven't quite got the recognition they deserve. And it had a link to this site. Which had a demo. Which I played. Which made me buy the game.

Well if the developers can't make any more money from the game because it's not available then sure that's fine because it's not corrupting the gaming industry.

PS. I admit I have got a free (sort of - had to pay for shipping) copy of game from a person on the Internet. However, before you flame me, the game was VERY old, was not available ANYWHERE. I had bought the game before but I had lent it to someone and not got it back. Also the game was buggy. I would never get a free copy of a game that was still available to buy, unless it was a game that i would NEVER have bought anyway AND a friend offered a copy to me. Does this make me a warez pirate? I don't think so.

They aren't. The people who maintain the site do thorough research into finding out the availabiltity of the games. And if they make a mistake, are always prompt to chage things so that they say where the game can be bought.

Yes, distinguish between warez and abandonware. If a game is so old it's not being sold by anyone anymore then it's abandonware and it's okay to distribute it. If a game is brand new, like Uplink, then copies of it are warez and anyone who deals in them should be strung up by their toenails.

Now what did Warez ever do to you?
I mean sure, he smells kinda funny.
And he's got that weird eye.

But that's no reason to rise up against him.

It's theft plain and simple. I wonder how the supporters of Warez would like it if somebody went round to their houses and pinched from them.

To placate all the semantic warez monkeys out there I should probably say that warez isn't exactly the same thing as theft. But if you warez a game which you probably would buy if you couldn't find as warez, then it might as well be the same thing.

I think d/l games that you can't buy anymore is ok.  Downloading freely availible games though is just driving game prices through the roof.  So I also say

I'm sorry But how many of the people in this string use linux. I do, which means i like the idea of open source programs. For somepeople being against warez is against the religion of their flavor, LINUX.(or bsd) Besides some of us might be communists(NOT ME!!!)(yet) Open source allows people to improve the program and who knows what features should be added more than, you guessed it THE GAMER. But i've been rambling.
