I would'nt want it in mine.
It's nothing but a ring oscillator ciruit.
Within a year or so it will be an actual chip, but even then I wouldn't want it.
It will be a communications chip, designed to translate multiple data signals into one optical transmision.

Far less complex than a CPU, that's how those chips run at such high speeds.
They have chips in use in various equipment now that runs at over 50 GHz.

But they only do one or two things.

::yawn::

Yeah, when you can make a CPU arch work on one or two logic gates, page me, and I'll trade you my deed for the Brooklin Bridge for the blueprints.

GaS architecture gets away with reporting such absurd speeds because it dosent have anything built INTO it. Its nothing. Its like a lobotomized calculator.

Besides, Motorola did this a while ago.
There is always free cheese in a mousetrap.

IBM Builds Fastest Communications Microchip

FUCKTARDS!!!
I READ THIS IN MY LOCAL DANISH NEWSPAPER!!!

the fastest CPU known yet (for full public) is a pentium 5 5ghz...
yeh.. you heard me... they will soon test an 5ghz processor

LDRaDa :
Oh... here we go again...
Is it at all possible for you to have a civilized convensation without calling people rude names and what have you? Or yelling?

Incase you did not actually read the artical, LDRaDa...

<quote>Besides connecting computers, telephones and other electronic devices in optical networks, the chips could be used in other high-performance settings, such as military applications.</quote>
Hardly something you are going to ever be able to see in a PC (or Personal Computer incase that escapes you) for quite some time, and certainly not at prices that people can afford. Not to mention it would probally require liquid nitron(sp?) for cooling any how *has heard of some pretty expensive, fast computers with that kind of cooling system.. nifty*

*shrugs*

No.
It will not be a network card chip.
Unless some one is a technician at an ISP or large datacenter they will most likely never see this chip or any that do it's job now.

And I can guarantee you there is no Pentium 5 in existance, period.
There may be silicon behind severly guarded doors that may be the beginnings of what may be called the pentium 5, but at this moment there is no such thing as a Pentium 5.

I also guarantee you that behind those doors are the future of CPU's running beyond 5 GHz.
Testing of 5GHz parts has already come.
