Dear: Chris & Any Other 'Uplink Developers
I downloaded the demo yesterday after seeing it on the ArsTechnica.com forums. (a place we're I'm always at) and let my friend onto it today. We simply love this game, we love the world of ShadowRun and this simply fits in with it. The pure fact that ShadowRun hasn't released a videogame since the days of snes/sega just draws fans to games like this. We were actually hoping it would move past single player and really become a huge online deal.
I've read alot of the things on these forums and have slightly grown disapointed with a few things. Just for instance, why would you need to network 3 machines together to get multiscreens? You could let the game spawn multiwindows or you could just use 2 vid cards in your machine. (or 1 dual for that matter) That would give you 2 screens, from there you could (if the game would let you) use multiscreens. Typing in boxes without deleting everything would be nice, I mean theres just a list of small things that could be added to make it a much more solid product.
Don't get me wrong, we LOVE this game and are semi-planning on getting the full version. (it's the 30 day wait and the no-multiplayer thats stopping us) But theres just a few things that nab you here and there. This game actually reminds me of the SEGA production of ShadowRun (yes step with me back into bad grafx and cheap sound time). Anyone who's played this classic can remember the net hacking in it. Almost a game of it's own! Really that right there is why alot of us put our game rule books down and started playing the sega version. I mean when you don't have friends around 24/7 the orginal is hard to play.
Maybe I'm just mumbling on to myself here, but Chris can you give us any thoughts on what the next patch will do? How long if ever will there be *real* multiplayer version? And when will we be able to download the game (win & linux for us dual booters out there) instead of having to wait forever?
Sorry for rambling on so long;
