This thread may have appeared elsewhere but I just remembering the 'ye old days' of hacking games on the speccy. I do remember there was 'Hacker' which is a 1985 game. But I remember playing a game that gave you the phone number and the rest was up to you.

What was that game?? I remember completing it yonks ago!

5 years ago my sister gave me a present for christmas. It was a CD filled with text-based games, I don't remember what it was called but it had Collosal Cave, Zork 1-3, Wishbringer, Hacker as well as 20 other games.

I know the one you're talking about... I don't remember it's name though.

I'm trying to find the name of a BBS Door that I played a lot few (well, many :)) years ago.

It was in ANSI and you navigated in a grid (Matrix) with the arrow keys. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and remember the name??

I think I know the game you're referring to (in reply to Jerome, sorry to the original poster =( ). Is it called NetRunner? I don't have a binary nor do I know where to get one but you can telnet to chungkuo.org to play it. Hope that helps.

Yes, and believe it or not, nethack is still enjoyed by thousands today.

> http://freshmeat.net/projects/nethack/ <, unless that's another game by the same name.

I was hoping someone would point out that net hack had nothing to do with hacking :) There are a variety of 'hack' games which are all dungeon crawlers. Netrunner was the door game in question

Heh, this thread reminded me of how much I loved Neuromancer...and the fact that I never beat it...grr. :) Found a freeware copy online though, www.theunderdogs.org and search for Neuromancer.
