The State of Modding

Postby dsdude123 » Thu Sep 08, 2016 3:34 am

The current state of modding Prison Architect is unsatisfactory. While the PA developers have provided us with many features that make modding easier including the ability to have an unlimited amount of mods, they have failed to provide any proper documentation to support modding. A good example is the recent addition of the ability to mod the sounds.txt file. There is absolutely no documentation on what anything in the file mean such as the values for SOURCETYPE and INSTANCETYPE. Furthermore, the existing documentation on the Prison Architect wiki is far outdated and provides minimal assistance to mod developers.

The most up-to-date documentation available is the Prison-Architect-API by aubergine10 on GitHub but that resource is incomplete.

The PA developers either need to provide documentation on all the different properties and values or they should release and/or sell the source code for Prison Architect like they have with previous games so that the modding community can create this documentation themselves or even improve the modding system further.
