Game issues- not able to go to menu

Hello, my name is Colin and I am having some trouble with my game. I just started, and I am having some problems. When I created a new prison, i build a few things, then the game turned black, then back to normal. It did not let me access the menu, and I had to close it using the task manager. I opened it again, and the same thing happened. Anyone know whats going on? Thanks. -Colin
