Found a mistake in biographies(!)

Hi Introversion,

whilst updating biographies for my crime mod I came across this double Crime in biographies.txt;

Code: Select all

BEGIN Crime
    Name            ViolentDisorder
    MinSentence     2
    MaxSentence     5
    Risk            Medium
    Trait           Violent
END

...

BEGIN Crime
    Name            ViolentDisorder
    MinSentence     3
    MaxSentence     5
    Risk            Medium
    Trait           Violent
    Trait           Destructive
END

This has been in biographies at least since alpha 36, it is a soft-error (the second overrules the first probably).
-It doesn't cause a crash or bug, but it does say something about the maintenance state of an important file...

ps. While you're looking into it, please consider merging your base file with my mod "{Crimes, Upgrade}"... For some simple creds I'll allow it! (albeit you might want a slightly less heinous version, as my mod does also add some really extreme and controversial crimes in the 250+ added crimes.)

Wow. Just wow. "Please incorporate my mod into the game for 'cred' (money?)". That is just you being greedy, my friend.

I don't know if the second entry overrules the first. Maybe it just doubles the likelihood of someone committing this crime, with the chances for higher sentences (3-5 years) being higher than for 2-3 year ones, and destructive guys only getting the higher sentences, while violent guys might get lower ones. If that's the case, this might well be a feature (balancing the crimes).

cred doesn't equal money in my world buddy :o

@TheCanadianVending #2 Why do I even bother responding to ill-informed trolls; I have 7 mods all freely available on steam;
-that's only 3 less then your post count since joining in 2014. In one month.
-It's 1/3rds the amount of words you used to state a wrong assumption and plainly insult my character and motives.

Also for you making the thread go off topic, and making my gesture and possible (minor) error report seem commercially motivated(!)
I reported your post as hurtful, I truly find it offensive.

-> I am not your Friend (rightnow) Buddy! :)

Btw. I don't need my mod to be integrated, but wouldn't mind either FOR A TEXTUAL CREDIT MENTION. Nuf said..

Thank you @YMS for not going into the Cannuc's weird allegations! I get and hinted at the possibility of there being no negative effect, but seeing as the 2 are not adjoining in the file, but rather spread randomly, it seems more likely a forgotten edit to me.
+Every other type of moddeble repeated thing in game overrides the previous mentioning when reapplied, even from within the same file.
+I have not seen a single other base crime being repeated.

->But I have not tested the possibility of intentional alternates, so can't completely rule out your possible, but improbable, scenario...

Hopefully an Introversion team member could give a short insight?

edit: Ironically my own expansion mod of the file was causing an error with the new update   (Fixed in meantime)
-Subject report is still valid though!

I think that YMS has the right idea. The two entries are different. One gives only the "Violent" trait, while the other gives both the "Violence" and "Destructive" traits. Given that the latter has a longer minimum sentence---which makes sense---I would not jump to the conclusion that this is a mistake.

Tnx, it could be additive; maybe I'll test it fully myself with a limited range extreme difference test-mod one day soon!

It is in the worst case-scenario a harmless mishap, or could indeed hide an un-docuented feature I could employ two in my mod :D
-Thanks for the added input, you got me a bit more excited about looking into the possible feature... and my mod, which after last weekends Paris debacle doesn't feel as fun to work on atm... :(

-Doing consignment work in such a (sometimes) limited and difficult environment, I couldn't quote a (healthy) price and couldn't even ensure anything without knowing what specifics you'd like..

So no, not unless you're someone with deep pockets and adjustable expectations ;)

-What ideas are you entertaining? I mean if it's really great I might do something with the idea...

ps You wouldn't believe the stuff I'm running atm in development, so stay around and I'll likely be able to make you happy in other (modding) ways ;)
