Have you tried Steam > verify integrity of game cache yet? (That checks if files are messed up, if you're using steam that is.)
-If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall might make a difference (also the game is not that big; so it shouldn't take too long to try it.)
I don't get what is messing the game up for you... it is running not crashing, yet not displaying as it should... that's odd!
Maybe, perhaps something like desktop scaling or another programs overlay might be bugging the game to render off screen (what I think is happening)
-Have you started using screencapture software for instance?
I've only had small mess-ups where screen goes black, while alt-tabbing to desktop and changing my taskbar from locked to unlocked...
-> It might be a thing to test; see if any taskbar settings might influence the behavior?
What I can say is that once it messed up here on my end; I just had to quit and restart the game to play on. Staying in the bugged game; no amount of alt-tabbing and settings reverting made the rendering correct itself. But I don't know if any of that helps.
Else if you can; do check your windows update history to see if something got patched around the time troubles started, might put you on track of something...
-Or for the hell of it; disable your anti-virus software temporarily.
Those are all the things I can think of for now.
-Having backup machines is the best way to combat this sort of pc-weirdness. But I have my equipment for work, not just my gaming hobby
