Virus outbreak is a pure pain in the ass at the moment. I think the way the virus "re-spreads"(?) after you healed/cured your prisoners is abit too much... All I'm basicaly doing all the time is changing all my prisoners sec.level back and forth cause they can't get rid of the disease. Just purchased some exta land and built a cellblock for the infected with an infirmary attached to it and set all the infected with supermax sec. level and will see how that's going to work out.

I find it's a good strategy to order a Bangup as soon as you get the outbreak message, to limit prioner-to-prisoner contact and thereby disease propagation. Then you look through your prisoners in their cells and put the sick (green) ones on lockdown for some hours and individually order a doctor to them. After that the virus is contained and you can let everyone else out off their cells again. But beware: It will take some time for the infected to heal after the doctors worked their magic (the 'Sick' status '+++' gradually declines). So monitor the sick prisoners for some time and only release them from lockdown when the 'Sick' status disappeared (You can just add on their lockdown hours if they are still sick. Be careful, though, depending on your warp factor, i.e. depending on your map size, the lockdown timer and the world clock may have different speeds).

Needs a bit micro management, and I find the current implementation of the 'Outbreak' event suboptimal, but works for me.

One time, though, I triggered a riot with the Bangup order, when everyone was already pissed off and temperature was high, complicating things further, but normally I get rid of the outbreak with a fairly small amount of intervention and without much of a hassle. There certainly is no need for an extra wing for the infected (no need to escort infected inmates to their new cells, potentially having contact to and infecting passers by), though it may be fun to have some kind of 'leper colony'.

i have had success getting rid of the "sick" a few times so far. though currently i no longer pay it any mind, it takes a long time to get everyone healthy again and its very time consuming hunting all the sick down and dealing with them one by one.

and since being sick really does not do anything, i have come to not care. so far i have had this one outbreak of sickness "renew" 3 times AKA get the virus outbreak event 3 more times. before the previous one was cured.

just not worth the time caring for it. i have also seen it come back after i have cured all inmates and had 0 sick. somehow without a new event it just came back.

At least this is quite realistic :)

Punish the sick with 3 days lockdown seems to work good.

I think the combo of gang control + anti-weightlifting legislation kinda sucks. Why can't I remove the weights even while the gang is sleeping? Perhaps removal of weights while they sleep could trigger another event when they notice... A prisoner demand or threat of riot unless you appease them?

And yeah, the sickness thing could be more interesting... Maybe require doctors to do rounds and inject prisoners once or twice per day.... Give those doctors something to do!

I like the events, but I think they need more options and interactivity. I'd love to see gang and prisoner demands, threats against staff, maybe a particular staff member gets targeted?

What i do when this event pops is pause the game...and search for the few prisoners that are sick...seems to start with about 3 or something...and punish them for 24 hours lockup...than manually send a doctor to that persons cell...still very tedious mostly because its very hard to find the infected prisoners

i think an easy way to fix this might be to add "sick" as a prisoner trait so you can just check the informants page to see who is sick

furthermore you need to be able to assign prisoners to cell/send staff to locations while in the informant and gangs menus...currently you can select them while in those menu's but have to close the menu's if you actually wish to send them somewhere

Personally I (regretfully) ended up switching the events system off, mainly due to the extreme variant of the virus outbreak being a game ender due to too many deaths.

As others have mentioned before me my approach with the virus outbreak was to immediately order a bang up to prevent the spread. I then had ~500 prisoners in lock down with an increasing temperature bar with around 10-20 infected. Problem is - I'm red/green colour blind, and I found it difficult to identify which prisoners are infected without checking the needs popup individually for each prisoner. This was a huge chore and not fun. Ending the lock down results in the entire prison being infected and a huge death toll. I'm not sure if the game identifies if you have the regular or extreme version of the outbreak.

The "Virus Outbreak" event is giving the player a problem without a solution in my opinion - you need to be able to filter your inmates based on who is infected and who isn't. Even something as simple as clicking the infecting count toggles you through the infected prisoners would be a huge improvement for me.

Futhermore i'm not colorblind and i still have a heard time identifying which prisoners are sick without checking everysingle popup

i noticed that the extreme version of the virus outbreak really is a problem/broken mess

while you can micro manage the normal virus outbreak, i have had 1 of the more extreme ones happen to me and when it did i ended up with 23 sick inmates. also my doctors wrote them off as dead before they died. as they refused to treat them, as if the virus has no cure. they might as well have had an extreme case of M.R.S.A. of the 23 that got sick, 16 died. the others somehow managed to beat the virus with no help from the doctors.

I have a free cellblock tagged "Protective Custody". So when I get the sickness alert I enable a "lockdown". Pause the game and go through every cell, sometimes moving guards around a bit to see em all, detect them, then tag them for "protective custody" and "permanent lockdown". When they are all detected and moved into the "isolated cellblock" I disable lockdown, send a medic in there and treat them. And I keep them there until they are healed completely.

Need a new room "Medical Isolation Unit" that you can assign doctors to. If you don't have it then virus ought to be a pain to deal with. But if you do then it becomes much easier. It'd be cool if there were specialist doctors added for it as well IMO.

Dealing with the virus is not a big deal for me, compared to seeing who's infected.

There should be some way for information of the virus outbreak to reach the warden/architect. Maybe the guards or fellow prisoners can notify doctors. Maybe it could be observed on CCTV and doctors can be dispatched. Once a patient is identified by in-game elements (not by your observation), he would glow bright green, allowing you to spot him very quickly.

A "medical quarantine" command could also be added if virus and disease becomes a fully implemented system in the game. Maybe once issued a doctor would be automatically dispatched to treat and again periodically to check. The prisoner could then be automatically released 24 hours after a doctor could confirm that the prisoner is good to go.

Also, give a 24-hour immune period after being cured or implement vaccines. (Costs cash, maybe $20, per-prisoner, up to you to use it or not) This should reduce the tedium of the virus event while not making it completely challengeless. Eventually (maybe after 30~45 days) the vaccine would wear out and any new virus outbreak will need to be manually handled again.
