[Suggestion] Doctors should not be able to heal starvation

Postby Macrophage » Sun Aug 23, 2015 5:38 am

As it stands now, I can prepare enough food for only half my prisoners, but still they don't die because any doctor can heal all their starvation damage in a few seconds just by giving them a shot. This is silly.

Perhaps it should reduce their starvation to a point where it doesn't hurt the inmate but still makes him angry enough to kick off because he's not being fed.

They're already angry enough to kick off because they're not being fed. No change is required for that.

The point of my suggestion is that they should starve if they aren't being fed, and currently they aren't because the game does not distinguish between physical injury and damage from lack of food.

That's very creative but does not address the problem with this mechanic.

If no food is available, what exactly are the doctors force-feeding them with?

It seems to me that you should have to go out of your way for a prisoner to starve to death. Lock him in solitary and brick off the entrance.

Half of your prisoners should not starve to death if there's only half the needed food. Riots should happen long before that. People will die trying to steal food, or trying to keep their food from being stolen. People on the verge of starving will do everything they can to be at the front of the line to get the next meal. There will be riots.

What happens now in the game is that some of your prisoners will just passively go day to day slowly starving to death. If you watch, they often won't even try to get a meal until all the food is gone. Do they scrape leftovers off of used trays? No.

In all of that un-reality, having a doctor bring someone back from the brink of death from starvation is not a big deal.

Any prison infirmary will have IV nutrition on hand, as well as ensure and other liquid foods. Plenty of prisons have to deal with elderly and ill prisoners who cannot eat solid food. It's completely plausible and realistic that a well-stocked infirmary could offer nutrition and supplements to ailing/starving inmates.

I think a better option would be that healing by a doctor costs money.
So feeding your prisoners cooked food, should be a lot cheaper than having them healed by doctors all the time.
