[Suggestion] Guard Policy

Postby RedTear » Wed May 27, 2015 12:48 pm

So, youve built your prison, have a low reoffending rate, no deaths in custody, a lot of money... But then, your guard decides to murder a cop killer and to kill your perfect score of 0 deaths in custody.

Bringing to you now: Guard policies.

How do you want to deal with your guards?
Standart rules: Nothing changes.

Other then that therell be extensive sensitivity training courses as well as a slider which regulates how you react if a guard does something wrong.
How heavily do you want to punish the guard? The heavier you do want to punish a guard, the less likely he is to do such a thing, but also, if he does it anyways, itll cost you.You suspend him for a week? Well itll cost you a weeks pay. You fire him? You might have to pay a termination bonus. Let alone what his lawyers try to get out of you if you try to actualy pursue judicial punishment.

Obviously those are policies laid out in advance, affecting the whole body of guards. Not "Peter Smith", but "Guard 1 through 500" ;)

I think its a good idea. In general the prison staff. Be it guards or other personal like warden, security chief. They should do more than sit in their little room. They should have needs. They should actually need a place to sleep, eat and so forth.

Can you imagine if the warden actually walked around to inspect the prison and there was a real risk he could be taken hostage or killed.

Atm guards are just machines that work 24/7 pretty much.

I disagree with you. The focus are the prisoners and thats fine.
All im proposing is the option to pursue punishment on excessive force and possibly a similar training to tazer qualification just way more expensive/timeconsuming.
It would benefit some prisons which run relativly well anyways. If you didnt use those options, everything would just stay as it is.

how about using some sort of guard traits and/or experience? you could sack guards with bad traits (cruel, agressive etc.) als experience to have some guards work better, or have a sort of sixth sense of when some prisoner will go off, or carries contraband. ofcourse, more experience means more pay

A guard policy as such would probably put the focus away from the prisoners - but the core point is that there is no permanent penalty for shooting prisoners that misbehave - only a temporary one in valuation.

Suspension of guards is complex (do they leave during a riot?) - alternative could be that every death costs you a 2K or 5K penalty. That could have implied sensitivity training / investigation costs / government fines.

In this way a mass riot with 20 deaths could cost you between 20k and 100k - a good incentive to keep a closer look at the barometer.
