Bug or feature: Perimeter walls cut off utilities ?

Postby metalbunny » Fri May 08, 2015 11:51 am

Got the "brilliant" idea to surround the new outdoor yard for my max sec by perimeter walls. Only I had the two power lines and the water main for their cellblock going through that area. The walls went up just fine, but then all of a sudden all the power went out and then there was no water.

Turns out perimeter walls cut off the power and water lines. But the thing is: Is that supposed to happen or is it a bug?

I have noticed that the perimeter walls also seem to slow (or block?) tunnels enough that I can find them before they make it outside. Which is nice, but also not sure if it's intended because it basically means that the perimeter walls are the solution to prevent all escapes through tunnels.

Feature. The point of a perimeter wall is to slow down tunneling prisoners (among other things). Running utilities under the wall kind of defeats the purpose.

Placing any kind of electrical object next to the left side of a perimeter wall tile will place a cable under said perimeter wall tile.

You can also get electrical cables under a wall by placing them (wall and cable) at the same time, but having the wall installed first. I use this so I can have servo powered doors on the perimeter walls. Bugs me that you cant do this by default - I mean it really just restricts you so that you HAVE to build little 2x2 rooms by perimeter walls so that you can get someone to man the door.

Thans Xander :) Just wanted to check before I reported it :P I weren't paying attention when the perimeter walls were put in, they were just suddenly there, and since I have no idea what build they were added I couldn't really check the feature list (easily anyway).

At least I didn't build the whole damn place out of perimeter walls, so still managed to reroute everything around them.

the whole idea of it is for a big block to stop tunnels for going underneath and if you can put wires under a huge block of brick then tunnels can go through it to

I just had a prisoner escaping through a tunnel under a perimeter wall.

Perimeter walls don't prevent tunneling entirely, they just make it take longer than normal.
