[Issue] Deathrow - Lockdown

Postby knoest26 » Sat Mar 28, 2015 8:19 pm

I had a reasonably stable Maximum security prison with about 700 maximum security prisoners. I added another cellblock for deathrow, took in some prisoners and waited untill one of them had less than 10% chance of clemency and then moved on to have him executed. I followed the steps and they were actually really good and in the end I felt quite bad that I killed the prisoner eventhough he was guilty and I rightfully executed him.

I did however have an issue afterwards. Because the execution takes quite long all my prisoners had gone mad and started to riot. Furious at the rioting prisoners ruining my deathrow test I decided to get some more armed guards and turned on free fire. I ended up killing 50 of them and things stayed heated for another few days killing another 20 of them.

This brings me to the issue, the lockdown for an execution is too long. You can't have an execution in a large prison because the amount of prisoners not getting their needs met means you'll get a riot afterwards. now I see three ways of fixing this;
-Either have the lockdown happen at later on in the checklist
-Have the execution take up less time
-Or, as I would prefer, have the lockdown only count for the cellblock the Deathrow inmate is in

I haven't tested yet, but can't you do this at night? A documentary I saw had those executions at night.

Executions here in USA typically happen at or around midnight. I have yet to reach an execution in the game (both my potentials vanished *poof* during their clemency hearing) but I will for certain run mine as soon as "sleep" begins, as my prison is @~550+ Max/Supermax.

Generally in the US, prisons go on lock down for 6 to 24 hours for an execution. However, the prisoner's needs are attended to by the guards in their cells. They still get food delivered at meal times, they can do whatever within their cells, just cant leave their cells till the process is over. One thing that is not implemented is the death watch cell right now. Basically this would mean that execution sequences would need to occur over two days in two phases. Phase 1 could be preparation and Phase 2 would begin where the execution escort detail goes to escort the poor fellow to the chair. Basically when you clicked the button, that would fire off prep phase. In this phase, you would move the the prisoner to a specific cell that is marked as the Death Watch cell. This means you could build your execution facility near the entrance to your prison in order to speed up the deals and all on execution day. This execution facility would contain the execution room and a couple of "Death Watch" cells next to each other. You could then put your Death Row over completely in the other side of your prison if you wanted. Many states in the US even house inmates at different institutions and bring them to the appointed location when its their time to take the walk. On prep day, you would go ahead and test the execution facility as well. The prep phase would end once this step was completed. The day of the execution (the next day at 6 PM), the execution day sequence would begin. This process could begin by giving the prisoner last visitation, have his preferred spiritual leader give him individual spiritual guidance (and would remain around for the escort. While this is happening you could be putting the prison on lock down and have the escort detail report. Maybe add a 2nd step to this to actually have them preform the escort that could only be done once the prior steps were completed and witnesses had assembled. Proceed as it occurs now. More realistically would be to have the witnesses assemble in the reception area and then be escorted to the execution chamber once the condemned has been escorted in. In the US the witnesses usually do not get to watch till the actual execution begins.

another solution could be "freezing" al the needs of the prisoners untill execution has bein completed.

I tried to do execution at night. The problem is they didn't go to sleep during lock down. The lockdown took sooooo long, the prisoners rioted the following morning due to critical need of sleeping.

What if you run the lockdown after they've already gone to sleep? I'd swear I've done a reg lockdown and a bangup during sleep and had no trouble, but it's been a while.

I really don't understand prisoners can riot when they didn't get enough sleep. IMO they should be very sleepy => less chance for a riot.
(Or at least make it a very slow and sleepy riot ;-) )
