[Suggestion] Auto prisoner intake

Postby ralekk » Sat Mar 28, 2015 2:54 pm

I suggest a auto prisoner intake system.

I would work like this, the player set the max amount of prisoners in low, mid, high, etc category and the prisoner intake will auto regulate the intake, until max is reached.
I find it a bit tedious to constantly play around with the setting since i would like all my prisoners in cells instead of having a buffer in holding cells. I often wait a few days between intake just to not have to play around with the current intake system.

This would be more like real prisons also, when 10 prisoners are released 10 new will arrive to the prison. The prisoners are taken from the pool and if there aren't enough in the pool you wont get enough prisoners.

Yes, I have to agree. While the current system is a big improvement compared to before, I find it strange that you still have to do the micromanagement every day to get the right amount of prisoners. It thought the developers didn't want to put needless mindless micromanagement in the game, but they seem to use a different rule when it comes to prisoner intake...

For the people that like a challenge, I think it would be better to have a seperate game-mode where you have constant intake that you can't influence at all.

I think that could neatly be made into a research subject for the accountant or the chief.

"Intake Policy" - enable your staff to authorize intake until max capacity is reached and another research node later: "Intake focus" - enables you to set a focus on what security level the auto intake deciding staff will choose. (basically like the way you do it now in the intake tab with the sliders).

It makes me scratch my head that this feature hasn't been implemented yet.

However, I would like to set a custom limit in intake section for each security level of prisoners, that allows new ones to arrive until a set number is met or exceeded.
What I mean by that is I could for an example accept high sec prisoners until I have a total of 400 high sec prisoners in my prison, even though my total high sec capacity is 420, the last 20 would be an emergency in case someone gets "promoted" to high-sec from normal, etc.

This would be a huge improvement. I can't imagine why I'd ever want an intake system to be along the lines of "take so many every day" instead of "maintain number of prisoners at blah". The number of prisoners taken in in a given day seems to be a number of not much importance, while the total number of prisoners in the prison is far more important. It's odd that the game offers a way to fix the former but not the latter, and that we have to simulate the latter by manually micromanaging the former. (I don't use a holding cell, I just have individual cells for everyone)

in my my large (200 prisoner )prison i have 5 prisoners coming a day(2 min 1 norm 2 max) and have about 6 deaths so this would help a lot and i dont sit around waiting for my prisoners to come and then have 50 open cells

Yeah, this would really help, was thinking about posting it myself, I just want to leave my prison running without losing money because the prisoners were released. I need that money, ;)

I agree, it's nice to define which prisoners you intake, but it does become tedious doing it every day, to ensure you don't get flooded with the too many on one sec type. I've got just over 800 cells in my current prison, and holding cells to hold at least another 200. It would be nice to set up the intake so that you just type in a number as max for each sec in total, and the intake will allow the difference from current to come in.

eg:
I have 155 max sec prisoners, but cells for 200 and a holding cell for another 25. I'd set the max sec limit at 225, and the next day I should see 70 max sec come in on buses, if there are that many available. If none get released/paroled/shot/battered/or eaten by dogs that day, then next day I should receive none. If they do I should see a few more come in.

Under the current system, I'd have to manually play with the sliders every day to try to fill out the cells, and not flood one section.

I would like to still see the maximum intake available to use though, because unless you have a lot of guards, (which I try to have the least possible) it can take more than a day to process intake.

eg:
same as above, but I set my maximum intake to 50, because that all my guards can handle comfortably in a day. I have space for 70, but only receive 50 one day, and a further 20 the next, and up to 30 of another security class.

Having both in play I would know that I'm not going to flood one security class with more than I can hold, and I won't flood my guards with too many prisoners on intake.

I completely agree with this suggestion. Micro-managing my intake every time a prisoner gets released is extremely tedious. I would like to say, "Okay, I have 100 minimum-security cells. Take in just enough minimum-security prisoners every day to keep those cells full, please." Then I could spend more time doing such tasks as designing a new cell block, and less time worrying about filling the cells I already have. Then when my new cell block is finished, I could just go into my intake menu and say, "Okay, now I have 150 minimum-security cells. Take in enough prisoners to keep them all full."
