[Suggestion] Specialised Workshops

Postby screamingabdab » Tue Feb 17, 2015 6:15 pm

Loving the game so far, but something that's been bugging with the last few prisons is that the Workshop requires Saw, Press & Table. It doesn't require a Carpentry Table, but if you want a Workshop to build beds you still need to have Press in it, taking up space and collecting dust.

The simple addition of splitting the Workshop into Metalworking Shop and a Woodworking Shop would sovle this. The Metalworking Shop would have the existing pre-req's and the Woodworking Shop would require Saw, Capentry Table & Table.

This sounds simple enough to be a Mod and if someone has made it already and it work with the current Alpha build please point me to it :)

Yup I'd like to see this as well. Maybe it'd be a carpenters or something.

How about just removing the press from the requirements. Just make it need a saw and table (and at least 5x5) and leave the rest up to the player.

I concur. I was going to get a carpentry workshop this week, but ended up having to place the mandatory press as well. A simple "saw" as the only requirement would be fine, though you'd have to adjust the grants a little then: "Build a workshop, add at least 1 press and 1 saw, have x prisoners pass basic workshop class, sell x license plates" and the advanced version "Build a workshop, add at least 1 carpentry table and 1 saw, have x prisoners pass advanced workshop class, sell x beds" which would tell players that both the saw and the end-product machine combined translates into exportable products.

I've yet to see beds leave my prison. They make a ton of license plates, but the wood seems to just...disappear. It's not used. Of course there's not a whole lot of prisoners interested in the workshop program. Could be the reason I suppose.

There are a few reasons for this. One being the availability of a Foreman to do the Carpentry Apprentice and the Workshop Safety programs depending on your regime. Another is the ability of your prisoners to pass said programs. Then there is the one foreman limit which means that only one workshop will be able to make the beds, assuming all the scheduling has been properly worked out.

I see beds being made, but only in one cell block for one security level (everyone is segregated in my prison).

Don't even get me started on the General Education Qualification.
