More guard stuff

Postby Gangrene » Tue Dec 09, 2014 10:29 pm

So, in my role as an Alpha tester I've taken to writing notes each day.

I'll continue with the theme of my last post and continue my thoughts on guards.

I think that guards should be able to be assigned to "patrol" prisoners. If I have someone in protective custody and they have to go through the prison... let's say to get to visitation. I should be able to post a guard to that task. They'll watch over them in their cell and follow them on their travels. That's the protection in the "protective" custody. Likewise if I have a known trouble maker I should be able to have a guard "keep an eye on that prisoner".

A HUGE item is "relief". There has to be a better way to change shifts. I have a guard on a patrol in a key area... They get tired and wander off to be replace by another. Sometimes, things can go bad when this happens. It leads me to ask. What kind of guard leaves their post? How would they explain that?... "There was a huge fight in the cafe today... Jim, weren't you supposed to on patrol at that time? There wasn't a guard in sight when the others showed up on the scene!" ... "Well sir, I was in there and Jeff was scheduled to come in after me... but I got tired and wandered off." ... "Oh, okay then." Hold the phone! When a guard is patrolling or posted in a room they shouldn't leave until their replacement shows up to relieve them. When they are close to or become tired the game sends a replacement. Once in place, then the original guard should head to the break room... not before. I'm pretty sure that's how it works in real life.

A guard schedule is a very important next step imo. I have plenty of guards in mijn prison, yet various posts are left abandoned. Not very convenient to have your Canteen guards taking a break during dinner time :/

I just place Staffrooms close to high-traffic areas if needed, or I just Station guards rather than make them Patrol.

It really doesn't matter how well you plan it. There are still holes regardless and we shouldn't have to build around that. Areas of the prison shouldn't be left unmanned.

This is a big deal, yeah. I don't know that I want a guard to be stationed in a prisoner's cell necessarily -- I figure the cell is protection enough -- but for Protected and for SuperMax, they shouldn't be able to leave their cell until a guard gets there to open the door and keep them safe/secure/behaved/etc., so a guard should show up there just before the right time, and stay with them as long as they're away from their cell.

Ideally, you wouldn't have many in either category, so it shouldn't be a big drain on guard resources, or a bottleneck for processing. But it should be automatic, either that or micromanaged ("Protected prisoners must be escorted for (a) Shower (b) Canteen (c) Visitation" etc. etc.).
