[Suggestion] CCTV and Lights

Postby zbyrne » Mon Nov 10, 2014 6:16 pm

Right basically I love the 'connection' utility. And I was thinking that it could be used in better ways. Let's say that every room gets a "hub" in the center of it's ceiling. The hub is there automatically (ie built as part of the foundations).

The hub serves two functions, firstly lights, and secondly CCTV. I myself find it mighty annoying, (and so has this forum): light placement during building is often wrong (even with auto lights!!), and we mostly cancel it and have to do it manually. Well if each room has a hub then as long as that's connected to the electricity grid, then voila the room has light. (Let's assume for simplicity's sake that all the light are build into the ceilings and don't need manual instillation. I say this as a time saving method and because no one likes installing lights ffs. So much of this game is automated, but let's at least automate the less fun bits.)

CCTV, there are two things about CCTV i don't like: first it takes up a square. which in my mind is way too much (can't really have it in cells, soemthing I want to do especially with legendaries/tunneling), although i appreciate there is nothing smaller. In my head, the CCTV should be those little small, black semi-spherical cameras stuck to the center of the ceiling, as opposed the 1980s yokes in the game. If we could connect our CCTV monitor to the Hub, well let's assume then like the lighting, cameras are on the ceiling, as opposed the walls. This change would do another thing, it would give you full view of that room, but would stop being able to see through walls. which is something that annoys me (and others) and is open to exploitation.

Until they rework the system for cctvs, did you know you can place objects "under" the cctv cameras, in the same square? The same as placing things over drains(like doors and shower heads), and I'm sure there's other items too. To select different items in the same square, just press tab while hovering over the square :)

These are great ideas. I love the idea of the hub being installed, at least give us the option if we want to pay $500 to put the hub in to the room we are building.

So I happen to think this was my most (prison architect related) genius idea ever, and so, am shamelessly bumping this.

Any way to tag Chris I wonder....
