Is it just me, or is anyone else having Legendary prisoners arriving with Min Sec intake only on? I thought they only arrived if you accepted Max Sec?

Just wait until you get a legendary that kills an armed guard and grabs his shotgun. He wasted 28 guards before I managed to stop his rampage.

This is kind of cheating, but you can open up your save game in notepad++ and search the guy by name or just "legend" you'll find that all the prisoners have hidden traits, and develop new ones, as they progress through your prison. Right below his name, it will show reputation and his sentence. You can alter that number to anything up to a million years, but the graph bugs out a little beyond 1200 years. You can also delete (or add! certain traits and reps)

For example my snitch that has 100% coverage in the prison, I never want him to leave, but I don't want him to get killed either, so I can give him legendary stats such as extremely tough, extremely strong, but remove fearless and cop killer, so he will surrender, and give him like 1000 years in the prison. Now I got 1 ci, that knows everything, and I don't have to keep my map blobbed with ci's covering the ui, plus by the time an inmate gets to 100% they are usually dead or released shortly after.

Recommend you don't report bugs on mantis using a manually edited save file, and 2, that you make a backup of said save file in case you mess up...

To handle Super-Max (and Protected Custody) inmates, I've made a little extra wing to house them. This is entirely separated from the rest of the prison by means of corridors that are staff only and some very solid solitary doors. In the Supermax part (16 cells) and the Canteen and Yard they share with ProtCust prisoners, armed guards, tazer equipped guards and guard-dogs are assigned to the degree of having about same number of guards in total for the wing as there is Supermax cells. All my Super-Max prisoners are under a constant state of suppressed. Oh, and stay locked up apart from 2x2 hours of eating, phoning home and/or watching TV in the canteen and 2 hours of Yard per day. And obviously, the schedules are made so that Super-Max and ProtCust inmates never meet.

The wing:

(Just for extra escape-proofing, the Super-Max housing unit is surrounded by Perimeter-Wall, as is also the entire wing. Entire prison to be more precise. Not entirely done yet, going to add an inner concrete Wall and make it all look pretty with grass and stuff)

Zones:

(Since the Super-Max inmates don't have any work scheduled, they'll not enter the laundry. The ProtCust do their dirty laundry and Janitors distribute the fresh garbs.)

Interesting layout you have there, can you show us the whole prison, or post it? Also how does it work out having multiple canteens?

In my first batch of 8 prisoners 2 were legendary i eventually knocked them out put them in their cell and locked it 10 days later i called in 12 riot police to check on them but when they went in everyone breathed a sigh of relief in that both of them had died either of their wounds or starvation

Even though it's over now (see the last post on the first page, in case you missed it) I do regret not being able to solve the Baly problem. Although my initial instinct was to lock him up and keep him there, when I found out he couldn't die I genuinely wanted to see if I could rehabilitate him, just for something to do. I got him through rehab 4 times (though he never fully kicked the habit), a workshop induction (with only two guards murdered with a hammer) one behavioural therapy stint (failed) and a carpentry course (failed). I genuinely wanted to rehab the guy but the tools just don't exist to do so.

I'd like to see in the future that those tools exist, to my mind you need three things:

1. Permanent escort- With three guards following him around all day I could have kept the mayhem to a minimum. It also would have been nice to have shackled escort to get him to and from facilities without him being loose.

B) Program priority - I really don't know why this isn't in. It seemed pointless giving him any other sort of reform program before clearing his addiction, as he was always too far in withdrawal to concentrate. Only the workshop induction worked because it was short and easy to pass, (and he 'accidentally' got some heroin about half way through).

III - Some sort of finish line. With a giant sentence seemingly unavoidable it just seems legendary prisoners are going to be yours to keep until they meet a violent end. State ordered executions or death from old age would put a more reasonable clock on these guys for a 'lawful' end to their stay in your prison which would go towards a good rating, allowing you to count them as 'released', collect your stats for their stay and avoid a death in custody penalty.

Oh wait! four, four things:

Δ: Meaningful reform: Although I never got him to complete the behavioural therapy program it would have been nice if that would have altered his traits. Perhaps after repeat sessions you could downgrade extremely volatile to volatile, and then remove it completely with enough therapy. Other stats could diminish too: Strength either by limiting exercise (at the expense of an unhappy prisoner) or just over time as age increases. Toughness and Fearlessness would degrade (or perhaps increase) over repeated beatings and injuries. Ultimately you may get to a point where you could reintegrate your legendary prisoner into the general population.

Problem is they don't age yet, you can get guys going on a rampage rack up 1000 years, or manually set it to that, and they'll stay there forever. I've left my prison run over night, and 8 hours is about 10 years sentence time in game on fast speed. Your framerate could greatly alter this for faster, or slower though, I had ~30 fps on that prison.

I've suggested that behavioral therapy make them less volatile or get rid of it. I agree we need a way of getting meaningful reform in here.

Anyone ever heard of those shock belt that prisoners wear when taken to court? Powered by a car battery and once activated it is extremely painful with the added bonus of making them paralyzed from the waste down.

The legendary prisoners escorts just needs a little remote.

Here's my prison so far:

(Pictures are pretty large - to view, right click and select 'view image' in Firefox. Other browsers, who knows or cares what to do?! :D )

Max Security Wing:

Normal Security Wing:

Next I plan to build more MaxSec on the empty land beside the Supermax. This also means expanding the Max kitchen and canteen quite significantly. so some rearranging will have to be done.

I also think of making a Minimal Security wing below the Normal Security, but is not a priority.

McLumberjack wrote:Sgt Patches is avenged! Oh man, you couldn't have written a more glorious end to this arsehole's journey.

Baly is in his yard, doing his usual thing (flipping out at nothing in particular; breaking shit). Tasers crackle to the usual effect, and with a resigned sigh I flip on free fire and order the guards to stand back... but what's this? A handler and his dog (Skittles Jr.) are heading to the cell. I order them away, fearing another canine catastrophe, but they ignore me. Everything seems to happen in slow motion: the dog yaps at the bars as the handler fumbles with his keys; the door swings wide; the legendary prisoner Baly stops hammering his yard bench into bloody splinters and turns; handler and dog step into the cell. Gladiators.

It is time to uphold their sworn duty: to protect benches at all costs. Nightstick and teeth bared, our heroes move in. With practised ease Baly does what Baly does best, snapping the handler's neck in his first strike. Snarling brown furriness lunges as the air is filled with fire and buckshot. Baly is down in the customary three shot salute... The smoke clears, and oh god. Oh Baly. What have you done.

His handler dead there is no one to call him off. His partner (only one day from retirement) was clearly the good cop in their relationship, and with his calming voice silenced forever there is only vengeance. Only Skittles.

Baly lies dead. His throat a ragged ruin. The tragedy of two lives cut short, one light, one dark. A moment of solemn silence is broken by someone in the prison yelling "Ha! Take that you dog killing maniac! Fuck you!" It's the prison's architect. He seems oddly invested for someone charged chiefly with designing and maintaining a prison. The guards glance away awkwardly as he snaps a photo of the scene, and laughs.

Image

Skittles Jr. is nowhere to be seen, then a cheer goes up. He's found near the kitchens, loping purposefully through the prison towards the exit. There's no place for him here any more, not without Gary (the handler was called Gary). Steely eyes dead ahead, he pads off out of the prison and into our hearts. The Architect stands inside the perimeter fence, holding aloft a boombox.

Image

Perhaps he'll befriend that boy.

That was... beautiful. You should write a book.

On-topic:
I've got an extremely deadly, extremely tough, volatile, to cut it short, he's the full package. Nearing his 600 years, I've locked him in solitary for a week or so to let him starve in his feces. You all know the story. Get out of cell, rage because he's hungry, kill a few guards, get shot, get back to cell, rinse and repeat.

Aw, thanks. Unfortunately I can only do it when it's silly, and books don't let you link Hans Zimmer music for effect, so it's like... what's the point? you know?

My advice: try to reform your man. It makes for an entertaining time and you'll probably kill him by accident anyway.

I loved the whole saga, but this part made me nearly spit coffee:

McLumberjack wrote:The other guard blasts away, taking three shots to put him down. 10 prisoners who were passing through the line of fire all surrender too, which is nice.
