[Suggestion] Basic resources (Water/Power) inputs/outputs

Postby Hgdavidy » Mon Sep 15, 2014 12:27 pm

Basic resources: Water and Power
The power and the water need a source.
Inputs:
- Add solar panels for energy input.
- Add batteries to storage the solar panels energy. (Batteries have a level to check the % of charge, like in the power station)
- Add resource input (trucks with water or gasoline (barrels or like fireman ???) and well for water source.
- First 10/15 days free water/gasoline resupply after that xx$/day.
- Add gasoline & water tanks, two types. (normal/large) (With level to check the % of charge, like in the power station)
- Add small pipe for gasoline. (To connect from gasoline tank to power station)
- Add large pipe for water. (To connect from water tank to water station or from wells to tanks )
- Add research for solar panels and wells.

Outputs:
- Add pseptic tank for wastewater.
- Add wastewater pipes for toilets & drains.

Example:

Stages:
1º- At start the new prison you can get a municipal inputs for water/gasoline/energy and output for waste waters. (You can connect the gasoline to the power station or use the energy input -> batteries -> to normal cable). You pay for the services x/day.
2º- If you research self-sufficiency for example now you unlock the water/gasoline/pseptic tanks and the service with trucks of barrels with gasoline/water cheaper than use municipal pipes.
3º- If research advanced self-sufficiency now you unlock the large water/gasoline/pseptic tanks and the solar panels for energy source.
Note: You can select to stop or start the municipal services the first month is free, if stop the inputs/outputs go hidden.

Notes: The power station need the gasoline to work from gasoline tank connected with gasoline pipes (Small/Normal) and the water pump station need water from water tank connected with the same or special water pipes (Big).
1º- Trucks with water/gasoline ->(barrels or like fireman ???) water /gasoline tanks ->(Pipes)(Max ~15 pipes travel) power station/water pump station -> actual cycle.
2º- Solar panels ->(Cable)(Max ~10 cables travel) energy storage batteries (replace power station) ->(Cable) actual cycle.
3º- Wells ->(Pipes)(Max ~10 pipes travel) water /gasoline tanks ->(Pipes)(Max ~15 pipes travel) power station/water pump station ->(Cable) actual cycle.
- The wastewater pipes connect from toilets & drains to pseptic tank.

This seems like a reasonable idea for a mod (and might even be doable with the current modding system), but for my own taste, I would prefer not to have such a complicated set of utilities to manage. I am happy with the notion that the power station draws power from the grid, that the water pump draws water from municipal pipes, and that every pipe shown in the game actually represents two pipes: a fresh water pipe leading away from the pump, and a sewage pipe leading to the municipal sewers, which just happen to be accessible at the same location as the pump.

Okay but if that is municipal add a source point random in the map to connect with pipe to the water pump and the same with the energy.

Sewer lines have been suggested before, the biggest criticism being that most objects that would use the waste water line also use water. And all you'd be doing is building twice as many pipes. Like Xander says, it's reasonable to assume that the "pipe" is actually a full plumbing system with both water mains and sewer pipes. Although having them both start and terminate at a water pump might seem rather odd.

Perhaps a rule that the cespit or septic tank must be at least 12 squares from a water source (spring, well, tank, municipal line) or else the water could be contaminated (lower health rating, sick prisoners, unhappiness, etc.) Then that would add a new layer to prison design.

I like the idea, makes the game a bit more fun in during the endgame

Added image with the solution.
And stages example.

As I said, I think it is a great idea for an optional mod, and I would love to see IV support such a system, but I don't want it to be part of my normal games.

This looks awesome. I like the idea of solar power. You could use this to power a remote set of offices or self-contained maximum security wing. As for gasoline I'm not sure what you would use it for. Propane, natural gas, oil, seem to be sources of heat / energy. As for the municipal hookups, I would just have the pipes run through the roadway and connect off them that way. So as far as spawning, you wouldn't have to worry where they come up.

As for the sewage, this would get complicated as you need to run water and a sewage pipe to everything. As it is its annoying to run piping.
