[Suggestion] Fire Safety

Postby nwtassales » Tue Sep 02, 2014 1:46 am

I was recently building my prison and my prison head the Great Fire it killed 10 prisoners two guards and sent guards racing to save prisoners.

Here are my suggestions to manage prison safety:

Fire Alarms: Opens the cell doors and cause the guards to evacuate the building.
Fire Extinguishers: Allows guards to attempt to put out small fires.
A fire notification just like the notice you get when there is a riot.
Emergency Routes: in deployment i would like the option to pre-plan a fire / riot evacuation route for guards and staff.
Fire Training: A training program for staff or prisoners to create a internal fire fighting unit, could be unlocked i bureaucracy.

Thanks

I really really like all of this... Pherhaps someone can mod it since I doubt developers will bother adding this anytime soon

sounds very good - the emergency exits should be feature - prisoners/guards/staff can open them from inside but they can't open from outside unless its attached with servo which unlocks the door from outside
also when fire alarm sounds - the fire resistant doors - aka fire doors could closed automatically (simllar to wooden door but more tough to fire but can be opened by anyone passing through)
fire hoses - to put out fire quickly - can be used either prisoner or guards or staff if they discover fire nearby
fire shutters - those can seal off the parts so can be opened again by firefighters when fire is out fully - this shutter is automatic as well

fire alarm panel - this contains the zones and settings for each zone etc to each fire detectors and pull stations and servos and etc - if panel fails eg broken can cause no alarm being sounded
emergency exit signs and lighting - those could create a good safety - if fire breaks out in plant room which causes power out

fire detectors - they detect the fire early on and sends signal to main fire alarm panel to sound the alarm and automaticlly call firefighters and direct them to room

Fire extinguisher sprite is already in the games default spritebank. I support all of this tough. With the preplan for fire and riot emergencies. I would be unstoppable.

These are all great ideas, especially the fire extinguishers. It seems like such a necessity I'm surprised they haven't implemented it already  I remember the first time a fire started in my prison I was so confused as to why the guards weren't trying to put it out or, at the very least, evacuate the cell.

Good ideas!

A few ideas to further expand on fire:

- Smoke should have the possibility of affecting the health bar of prisoners and staff in the same way combat does, knocking them unconcious, and ultimately killing them (somewhat like bleeding).
- Prisoners and staff knocked unconcious by the smoke would have to be rescued by guards or firefighters
- Guards will attempt to save prisoners and staff that are locked up or unconcious near the fire, risking injury from smoke inhalation as they do (there could be some sort of policy-setting governing to what degree the guards will risk their own lives to save prisoners, e.g. how many squares of smoke they are willing to cross).
- Firefighters will carry breathing apparatuses to make them immune to the health effects of smoke
- Firefighters will rescue unconcious persons in smoky areas and carry them to a safe zone (perhaps just a defined number of squares away from the smoke)
- If you have unlocked "Fire training" through bureaucracy, your internal fire fighting unit (a number of free guards) will pick up firefighting gear and breathing apparatuses at e.g. a security-room and become a controllable firefighting group operating as the firefighters you call in from the emergency tab. To give an incentive for researching this, the arrival time of called-in fire brigades could be slightly increased.

As a lot of the ideas deal with smoke, smoke spread inside your prison this would have to be modelled. I imagine this could be done in some way resembeling the way water spreads, with the main exeption being that smoke will continue to spread until it reaches the outside of the building.

+1 if inmates can set fires to escape during the confusion.

Great idea!

Especially if prisoners could set fires on purpose to help them escape.

Heh. I like that.

The combination of your location and avatar intrigue me, by the way---what do you do in Coventry?
