[Mod] Door Fix

Postby RGeezy911 » Sat May 10, 2014 7:46 pm

Door Fix
Previously known as Window Fix

Image Image Image Image

This is a minor mod meant to fix the way a few objects display themselves.

[THIS MOD CHANGES]
The objects.png file, which makes it incompatible with other modifications that change this file.

[WHAT THIS MOD DOES]
  • The small and large jail windows will now display two of themselves when being placed on a vertical wall.
  • Normal doors will display correctly when adjusted to open towards the east.
  • Remote doors will display correctly when adjusted to open towards the north and south. (New)
[DOWNLOAD]
Door Fix.zip - This is the manual way of installing the mod. (Use this method if the Steam Workshop gives you problems)
Steam Workshop - If you'd rather install it from the workshop, then use this method!

[REFERENCES]
viewtopic.php?f=43&t=48539 - A suggestion topic that requested for a fix to the jail windows.

[NOTICE]
This mod is intended to be used by those who enjoy playing the game in vanilla; this is only a fix and not a large scale edit to the game.

Make a post if any issues are found.

Hmm. I always seen the way that the windows display as appropriate. The bars are either on the inside or the outside. i.e: which side they are offset to. Like in prison movies you normally see the bars on the inside (closer to the cell side of the wall) with a larger space from the bars to the edge of the wall on the outside.

Yes you break the perspective with your mod. It's not possible to see both sides of the window with the angle of view of the game, it looks very wrong, like if the bars are horizontal.

Not sure I understand fully.

The perspective is top-down, with no options or commands to alter it. Vertical walls display both West and East sides, and are clearly visible to the player. Why should the windows not be displayed?

Additionally, the glass windows that are also present in the objects.png file are the same exact way. With that, I can only assume that the developers were aiming for the same result that I was aiming for.. windows on both sides of the wall.

Point is, the player shouldn't be able to see through the bars, they should only see the bars themselves.

I just edited my post while you were posting. But I think it doesn't render so well because it's not a 3d game. In 2d perspectives sometimes look different than what they would look if in 3d.

I really don't see the perspective getting heavily impacted by it. It remains the same.

Even without the mod, the perspective remains the same because the sides of the walls will still be shown (not including horizontal walls). It really doesn't change much.

If you like it there is no problem :) For myself I don't know, something bothers my eyes when I look at it. If you look a wall from above like the view in the game, you should see no window if you are right above it. If you move a bit to the right, you should see the inside window. If you move to the left, the outside one. But you should never be able to see both at the same time.

Now I understand that. Regardless, it's a minor mod for those interested in it. Thanks for the discussion!

Just to clarify, I have no problem with this mod. If I don't want it, I don't have to install it. i'm sure it will meet some peoples tastes, hats the entire point of a game being moddable. People being able to tailor it to their own preference. Was just stating my opinion.

Never thought about it that way... I never gave a window that much thought

Well, if you are into drawing / painting, you have to learn and think about those perspective "issues" and rules very often :)

About the only thing that I can draw is a stickman and he doesn't have a lot perspective rules :p

Mod updated to v1.1. It fixes the way normal doors display themselves when set to open on the right side. The quote below is the suggestion by David on the Steam workshop that got me to fix the door.

David wrote:was just about to ask if i could make a request...
was gonna ask if you could fix the normal door to open like it should,
but it looks like its been fixed... (altho its set on a diagonal angle which looks kinda silly...
were as in the past when you set the door to open from closed to >> it would basically do the same as the << opening animation

I think this mod should be added legitimately into the game. It wouldn't be that difficult (I think), and could come in with Alpha 22 (bug fixes). :D
