Force failure?

Postby Blackerture » Mon May 05, 2014 2:27 pm

Hi - pretty new to PA - loving it!.. I managed to build a pretty cool 1st prison and would like to experience it as a prisoner.. Is there a key combo that forces failure so that you are sent to your own prison?

I'm sure I saw one of the fellas use one in the latest Alpha YT video (alpha 20).

Obviously, there are hooks in the version of the game that the developers use that can be employed to quickly change the game state in order to test new features. Those bits and bobbles are compiled out of the build that is released to the public. Thus the ability to force the failure conditions does not exist for us. That being said, it is likely that they can be forced with some minor save game tweaks. For instance, to go bankrupt, simply edit your game file to give yourself a negative balance and hire enough staff to go over budget.

Thanks for the info Xander.. Shame we can't keep a few of those hooks from the test build they use to make the video :( . I really hope they add prisoner mode in the near future!

Quite a while ago (around the time of alpha 2 or 3 maybe?) Chris suggested that his ultimate plan is to include debug tools in the game so that modders will have access to them. However, I'm not sure that anyone but Chris has any idea about the timeline. It may never happen. :\

It'll probably happen, at some point. We are still in Alpha, God only knows when they'll move to Beta, so we've got a long time for Chris to add debug tools.

Search the forum. Xander was wrong for the first time ever! You can edit your save file too be ANY prisoner in your prison. Just go back in the forum. It is somewhere on there.

Um... did I say anything that contradicts this? I said that it should be possible to edit a save file to produce failure modes. That is what you are suggesting the OP do.
