Ok, could you read the suggestion rules and clarify a bit? I don't quite get the idea.

I Think what he means is using an exported savefile as blueprints for building that prison as apposed to getting the save file with the prison already built and all the prisoners already in it.
I kind of appose this idea, although i would back the idea of being able to create blue prints of things I have already build, rather like the clone tool but on a larger scale and portable between saves.

What? And like have an outline of the prison on a new map using the planner?
Re: how about a way to convert a save game file into blue pr
It would be INCREDIBLY EASY! It's all just text! Just run it through a filter of some type (bash a nice awk or grep) and replace the wall types with the layout wall, and the floor types as pathways (or limit to just the metal / fast paths?) and the various objects would be converted to the layout "solid square" objects.
Just have some level of conversion - because we wouldn't want every light/sprinkler/whatever converted... or maybe we would. I'd specify shower heads, toilets, and mandatory tables, etc. That part would be tricky, unless there was a big list with check boxes.
Then purge out all the non-layout stuff, but keep the minimum "header/footer" info that the .prison files need.
It'd be trickier under windows, without a decent grep or awk, or even a real scripting language. Maybe if it was done in Python...

I think saving blueprints for a particular room type is an interesting idea, saving the setup for a room would be a useful concept. Kind of like a bigger clone button. However blueprints for a whole prison, i dont see the benefit in.

This sounds more like saving Clone Blocks or Sets. That's a good idea, also! Not only should the Clone Tool be larger than it's current capabilities, but the ability (in the Layout section) to have pre-made/previously-designed-and-saved layouts would be slick.neale1993 wrote:I think saving blueprints for a particular room type is an interesting idea, saving the setup for a room would be a useful concept. I have a set style/layout for a 10-cell "block" and I get tired of re-creating it when I build/expand... what you are suggesting would be a great tool!

Hmm, for me the fun is in the designing and building of the prison - if you have a blueprint - or a blank savegame with planning layout pre-filled - then part of the challenge and fun is gone IMO.
It then ends up being a "paint by numbers" exercise where you just wait for funds to build the next predetermined block of cells.
The only rooms I use cloning for is the cells themselves - tool could be slightly bigger, but is not critical for me.
It is nice to see how other prisons work - but I can get them via the steam workshop and open them, or watch a let's play. When I play the game I want to play my own game.

I dont mean just for cloning. Say you have the setup for the entrance to your prison, but you want to use the same setup again. Save the room, objects, utilities etc into a 'blueprint' file. Next time you start a prison, select this blueprint, place it on the map and your engineers build it.
Or another example, saving different cellblock designs allowing you to easily place more and mix and match different designs in the same prison. Much quicker to place buildings that youve already built up before, even in a different prison.
