[Bugfix] Alpha 17 Dogs

Postby 111none » Sun Feb 02, 2014 6:20 am

Ok, so here is the bugfix for dogs not entering staff only kernels.

We, (Daniel Liu and rlgjiojgboirtjnb) does not take any responsibility for data loss, destruction of data, or corruption of any files. This information is provided as an AS-IS basis and is to be used for the owners of the game only. By continuing below, you acknowledge the fact we are not responsible for any unforeseen consequences that may occur. Use this at your own risk.

(Remember to backup your files.)

Steam workshop version provided by rlgjiojgboirtjnb here:
[url]http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=225393684l/url]

Step one, locate your main.dat open it with winrar and extract the contents.
They are located in the following:
Windows Vista, 7, and 8: C:\Users\your-username\AppData\Local\Introversion\Prison Architect
Or if you have Steam: \SteamApps\common\Prison Architect folder
Windows XP: C:\documents and settings\your-username\local settings\application data\introversion\prison architect\
Mac OS X: Locate your Prison Architect application, open package contents Content\Resources
Linux: ~/.Prison Architect

Step two, locate and open the Materials.txt within the main.dat

Step three, using the search button, type in dog until the following code shows up:

Code: Select all

BEGIN Object
    Name                 Dog
    MoveSpeedFactor      1.00000
    Toughness            20.0000
    RenderDepth          2
    ViewRange            12
    BlockedBy            Wall
    BlockedBy            StaticObject
    BlockedBy            UtilityStation
    Research             Dogs
    Sprite               GuardDog
    Properties           Entity
    Properties           Stafff
END

Step four, copy the code below AS-IS and paste it over exactly. (Or you can just delete the f  )

The end result should be as below:

Code: Select all

BEGIN Object
    Name                 Dog
    MoveSpeedFactor      1.00000
    Toughness            20.0000
    RenderDepth          2
    ViewRange            12
    BlockedBy            Wall
    BlockedBy            StaticObject
    BlockedBy            UtilityStation
    Research             Dogs
    Sprite               GuardDog
    Properties           Entity
    Properties           Staff
END

Step five, exit the text editor, if it prompts you to save, press yes.

Step six, exit winrar, if it asks you to overwrite previous files, click yes.

Thanks to:
xander, for suggesting to make this a mod.
rlgjiojgboirtjnb, for making the mod.
All the people who shall pressure Chris to fix this.

I knew that Stafff was the problem...At first, I saw dogs located in Stafff and I was wondering if this could mean second staff ui?But nah...Chris rushed typing something..

Thanks for the bug fix ! Just something to say: I'm using 7 x64 and Steam and main.dat was located inside the Prison Architect folder which inside the SteamApps folder ;)

Wouldn't it be easier to simply replace matrials.txt with a corrected version in a mod?

Uhm, my .dat files are in my STEAM PA folder, not in Appdata. Windows 7, 64bit btw.

Anyways, it might be simpler to simply open the .dat, open the materials.txt, hit CTRL+F (search function), search for "stafff" and kill the extra f. Save the file and replace the file inside the .dat (WinRAR will ask for this...).
Problem solved.

Anyways, good find Daniel!
And Chris? Bad Chris! Very bad Chris! Sit! ...good dog...
