Turn off Sheet Metal intake?

Postby shanethegooner » Sat Jan 18, 2014 8:08 pm

Is this possible with a mod or something?

Can I turn it off myself by messing with some files?

Thanks.

Sheet metal is delivered if you have a workshop. If you don't want it, dezone the workshop.

No, I now use my workshop ONLY for trees, it's annoying because I have to dump the metal.

That doesn't contradict anything I wrote. Sheet metal is delivered when you have a workshop. If you don't want sheet metal, don't zone a workshop. You cannot, at this moment in time, build a workshop for processing lumber only. Moreover, it is likely that it will never be possible do so.

I believe that sheet metal is only ordered if there are saws without anything in their "to saw" slot, keeping a lot of unsawed logs in your workshop should prevent sheet metal to be ordered. In my last prison sheet metal was ordered quite rarely but I didn't have enough trees to keep my saws going with just logs, I think it would be possible to run a workshop in such a manner that sheet metal is never ordered.

The Carpenter's Table is an object that may be available in the future (as listed in materials.txt). I'm going to assume it will allow for players to setup different types of workshops. For example, having presses and saws will trigger sheet metal to be delivered, but having carpenter tables and saws will not.

So I think this will be possible at some point.

Of course, this is just my own assumption.

The amount of sheetmetal delivered is roughly 1.5 stacks per saw, regardless of the quantity of a full stack (I increased it for more effeciency). If you have 1.5 stacks of log per saw or more, the amount of sheetmetal that needs to be ordered is 0.

And if you dezone the workshop, I don't think anybody will operate the saws.

To answer the original poster, shanethegooner.

You will need to modify your materials.txt file.

(Assuming you're using Windows and the Steam version)
Navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Prison Architect and find main.dat. Then open it with a program like WinRAR or similar. Find the materials.txt file and open it with any text editor. Use the search function (CTRL + F) and look for SheetMetal. Change the MaxStackSize to 0, then save the file and update it in the archive. Launch the game and the sheet metal should stop getting ordered.

Hope this helps!

I recently started a new prison and every tree on the map was cut down. When I zoned my workshops, the workers moved all of the wood into the workshops. I have yet to receive even 1 sheet metal. So there is an option if you start new. If you are able to keep the logs rolling into the workshops you won't have to worry about sheet metal. Again, this is on a new prison.

Thanks a lot, that's just what I wanted.

Will give it a go later.

Thanks again. :)
