Playing with a graphics tablet

Postby Deggial » Fri Jan 17, 2014 4:23 pm

This is probably not an issue for many players...

I love my graphics tablet. I have one at work, I use one at home. The cheaper ones are not even expensive, so I would recommend to give it a try. After a short time of getting compfortable with it, you don't want to miss it anymore. A tablet would be perfectly suited to designing a prison! 8)

However, I can not play PA with it:
Whenever I start to draw anything on the map, the first few drawn squares are not registered by the program. For example, if I want to draw a 10x10 sized fundament from the upper left corner to the lower right corner, I will get an 8x8 fundament with the first two rows and lines missing.
I don't know, whether or not I should report this as a bug, as it is definitely a minority problem. Nevertheless, I would love to see this fixed. Did I say, I love my graphics tablet?

Related to this topic is the request for zoom shortcuts (e.g. on the 'page-up'/'page-down'-keys). As there is no wheel on my tablet pen, it is cumbersome to zoom, being forced to use the mouse only for this task. (I mean - if I could use my tablet to play... )

Unfortunately, IV probably won't calibrate the game to work on one specific graphics tablet since it wasn't designed to be played with tablets in the first place. Doing so would require testing the game on several other tablets which many players may or may not use. It should be noted, not all tablets have additional buttons:

so being able to right click would require having to press and hold a specific area in the prison.

Having additional zoom shortcuts would be nice, but for now, instead of using your mouse, you can use the Q and E keys on your keyboard.
