Full screen windowed mode.

Postby sum0 » Thu Oct 03, 2013 6:50 pm

Nothing important, but it would be nice.

Can someone explain to me what it requires to program this in a language that a simple non-programming PC hobbyist can understand?
I've been curious about that since i first saw it in some Blizzard game and thought "why is this not the standard?".
Is it more difficult to program than the regular fullscreen or windowed?

IIRC it had a huge performance drawback with Windows XP and older because the Direct3D drivers were unable to operate in windowed mode. I might be mistaken though and I have no idea to what extent that is still the case for operating systems with modern 3D-accelerated desktops.

Still, a lot of games that support windowed mode do not have full screen windowed/borderless windowed mode (requiring autohotkey trickery to get around). I'd blame Microsoft since Linux window managers can hide window decorations without 3rd party trickery.
