One thing's for sure - the answer is either yes or no.

I wouldn't be surprised if IV were to demo one of their internal builds, rather than one of the public alphas.

As is clearly demonstrated by the videos that come with each alpha, IV have an internal developer build that is more feature complete than the externally available alphas. In addition to other yet-unimplemented features, the internal builds feature a suite of debug features, which can be valuable if you want to demo something in particular without taking the time to prepare a ton of saved prisons in advance or doing something hacky at the expo.

Looking at all the year Alphas they seem to come out wed thurs or fri

Well, to me the best date would be a friday so they can work on the game the entire week, let the players play during the weekend and discuss the results monday morning. So there is no logic in releasing it monday of tuesday. Only the eurogamer expo probably means they can't work on it tomorrow and they need a full day to release so it would already be ready today....

On the other hand, if Alpha 14 isn't what the people expect the negative influence could reduce their popularity at the expo.
