[Suggestion] Chain gang workers

Postby Illanair » Mon Sep 02, 2013 12:47 am

Was watching some old CSI: Miami episodes today and it got me thinking - Why not introduce the concept of chain gangs? Force the inmates to fill up old tunnels, remove weeds and dig and pour in foundations.

Basically the rough manual work that doesn't require knowledge of a wrench or a screwdriver - save your employed workers some time, and put your inmates to work in a sensible way (Bonus karma if they are forced to fill up their own tunnels )

So basically you'd have a long conga line of prisoners daisy chained to each other with a couple of armed guards escorting them around (At least if you're sending them outside the prison confines). Add a tiny chance of escape attemps if they manage to sneak along something to pry open their cuffs with (or use the tools at hand) - The inmate would have to be desperate enough to risk running from an armed guard though.

So basically employ them as workman, and basically give them access to tools?

I don't see what could go wrong.
When in doubt, you are probably right. The only right person. In fact, you are probably right as of right now!

i would like to see this added but in a different manner, for myself i feel as though the work available at the moment is very limited and doesn't feel right to me. (explained later #1)
for me id like to see an area zoned as manual labor or whatever u want to call it, the zone being outside requirement similar to the yard and requiring some basic resource to use then ship out. a quick example is breaking rocks down to gravel and shipping it off.

While on the topic im sure these have been suggested before

#1) The reasons id like to see some other options for work is that i feel currently the workshop takes a lot of investment and has a high return with high risk (contraband), but to get to that point can take a long time (sort of) and until then you end up with prisoners doing freetime or nothing till you get it up and running which results in many a tunnel being dug.
i think some other options for work that can provide income would be nice for variety and for early game usage before workshops.
P.S i think rock breaking would be a lot more demanding on the prisoners thus causing needs to go up faster (comfort sleep?)

#2) Id like to see Gardens added to the game, which can be assigned prisoners and the ingredients would go to the kitchen, and any ingredients provided from the prison give a "Home Grown" buff to prisoners when consumed.

Hahaha - Breaking down boulders. That reminds me of all of those old western movies and cartoons, like Lucky Luke. I'd definitely vote for that

Gardens also sound like a good idea for the less agressive inmates - Make it part of their rehabilitation and add on simple kitchen duties to scrub off and prepare the veggies for cooking :)

(Yes I love giving the inmates more purpose and more ways of sneaking off with contraband )

And I have been away from the entire Alpha since 2 or 3 I think *sigh* - Next you'll try and tell me to use the awesome and amazing search tool right? Except PHPbb2's search tool was never very good with these search terms.

More workshops styles would be a great addition. Only problem I foresee with more demanding needs(depending on work style) is the current regime style doesn't lend itself to setting different times for each job.

eg: You want your workers to do 8 hours in the license plate factory but only 4 in the chain gang/stone reclamation area.

I just did a search on the phrase chain gang selecting Search for all terms and it brought up a bunch of relevant threads.
