Do I smell or something?

Postby Pigster » Fri Jul 05, 2013 6:28 pm

I'm not sure if this counts as a bug, but is anyone else struggling to build up a population?

I'm on day 32 and since about day 15 my population has been leaving me faster than new inmates are arriving. I had a maximum of just short of 200 and it has gradually dropped to the current 97! I'm less than half full.

I would classify the problem as a gameplay balancing bug. The release mechanism is new, so it is not unsurprising that the balance is off a bit at the moment. If you (or someone else) haven't done so already, report it in the tracker so that Chris can be reminded that it needs fixing when the beta starts. ;)

Now that must be a bug.

I have a bit of a queue of deliveries and one of the prisoners being delivered got released status before he arrived!

Or my smell is especially fantastic.

I agree with xander.

To counter the problem just save 2 min before delivery, see how many new prisoners you get and reload if you think you need more.

I have the same problem.

My solution to this is: open your prison only for high risk prisoners. Those have longer sentences (up to 75 years) so they do not get released so quickly.

Or if you feel like it you can go into your save and edit Intake.numPrisoners to change how many prisoners will arrive at the next delivery time.

You make a good point, actually. Perhaps the system is already pretty well balanced. In order to maintain a population, you need to admit high risk prisoners, since they stick around longer, but are also more likely to break things. If you admit only low risk prisoners, your prison will often be empty. There is the balance. Or perhaps not. At any rate, whatever the flux ultimately turns out to be, it is almost certainly an issue for the beta, and probably isn't going to be addressed any time soon.

nope. i have seen this as well.

prisoners start serving there time as soon as the enter the map. your prisoner had less than 1 year to serve. and was as such released as soon as he got off the bus.

when i saw it in my prison the first time i had to laugh. i was just imagining this prisoner with a 1 year sentence. being transferred to my prison from jail after being convicted. and having the judge say something like. well im sentencing you to 1 year in prison.. with time served in jail waiting for trial.. you have.. 2 hours left.. LOL.

"Ok, for those two hours, I sentence you to stand handcuffed on the sidewalk in front of the prison. You're NOT to go inside."
