min/max sec

Postby mhuntley » Thu Jun 06, 2013 8:52 am

Hey,

Im not sure if I am using the tool to choose which area which inmates are meant to be able to use correctly. I created an area at the start for min sec prisoners, when I was a bit more stable financially i decided to open a new wing and make it all for max security. So I created a new cell block, yard, canteen etc and set them all to max sec in the deployment menu. This didn't seem to do anything. The old prisoners went to the new canteen to hang out and the new max sec were in the old canteen. I dont think this is working correctly or I am missing something. Anyone able to advise?

Thanks

I think min/Max sec only works on cellblocks at the moment, it doesn't work for things like the yard, canteen etc yet.

I would guess designating a new yard for max-sec will work quite well. The canteen is another matter, as the cooks in your prison will think of all canteen-space as their working place. Hence you might find your cooks using more time on running between different canteens than actually making any food.

So called "full segregation support" will probably be included in the game later on (it was among the thing listed when the developers asked the community about what to focus on next).

Thanks for the response. I wasn't sure if I was missing anything but that cleared it up.

Cheers for your help.

Having two yards is no problem, but marking it as high sec has no effect, like 4folders said. Sure, you can try and achieve this by your prison design, but it isn't supported by the game itself.

How do you do it with prison design? I thought by having my yard on inside the max sec cells it would do that but it did not work.

You can try by doing things like having stuff closer to one cell block than the other or having staff only zones between them. I don't know how successful you'd be, but I know you wouldn't be the first to try.

could you use locked jail doors to separate your population? so have all the amenities they need, escort prisoners to cells within the area, then seal it off with a closed jail door.

hmm, something to try.

Interesting Idea. I may give that a go. Thanks.

Ah! That's why my separate yards worked. I had the max-sec-block quite far away from the low-sec-block and it's yard. As mentioned though, it didn't help in the long run, as the whole prison collapsed due to cooks running around instead of cooking.

So not just me running into this issue. I'll keep the max inmate limit to 10 them. I only have 10 maximum security cells all walled off for the rest but they still end up just mixing.

I built a jail with a maximum security wing and one for Minimum and normal security prisoners. Each had their own cells, shower blocks, common rooms, laundries, cleaning cupboards, infirmaries, morgues etc, and had two kitchens and two canteens. The cooks started storing food in the fridges in the Maximum security despite there being plenty of fridges in the Min sec kitchen. The prisoners (all Min sec at that time as I had not yet accepted max sec prisoners) would shower in the empty Max block, and eat in the Max canteen as well as the min.

I had already assigned security classifications to these areas, but as mentioned earlier (and I didn't know at the time), security classifications only work for cells.

I waited until all staff and prisoners were out of the max canteen and sealed it off with bricks. A bit extreme I know. I could have (and later tried and succeeded) simply removed the serving tables, which made it no longer able to be a canteen. The cooks scurried about transferring all the food from the max serving tables to the min serving tables. What also worked was to de-classify the room as a canteen.

I sealed off the maximum security wing (with bricks again) and it is a fully functional wing with 60 cells, solitary, common rooms, shower blocks, laundries, cleaning cupboard, Security control room, separate power and water stations etc, but still no prisoners until I can work out problems with the laundry etc.

My workshop and visitation areas should be the only areas where the prisoners might mix.

It would be great to sort these areas out and have almost two separate prisons, each wing being totally independent (if I build another visitor centre and only allow min sec prisoners to work in the workshop they would never meet).

At the moment. I have a wall separating the two, and it would be great to be able to funnel the prisoners into two separate areas, and keep them there.

What I was thinking of is this. I have prisoner intake turned off at the moment. What I can do is build a temporary fence that only allows the guards to transfer prisoners to the max sec wing, accept only max sec prisoners, and after they arrive, fence off the area again. This will have to take place after I have built Visitor centre 2 (max security) and get the laundries working (doesn't everyone have problems with the laundries?).

Segregation is a big need in this sim/game. It really needs to be fixed.

Well, this IS still an Alpha. Wait for beta or full game release and I'm certain it will work well. Perhaps it's good that it isn't fixed for now, as we can learn how to properly manage the movement and mood of prisoners and then implement it properly when we are fully up and running.
