Historic Settings & Scenarios (lend your ideas)

Postby fidelio » Fri May 24, 2013 2:38 pm

not knowing what's in store for the campaign, this desire is couched in ignorance but ...

... what would seem a lot of fun to play would be a few different times and places like:

a p.o.w. prison camp buried in some dark forest with wire fences.
a wartime detention facility built inside a castle where you have to adapt your designs to a rigid existing structure.
an internment camp filled with civilians of all ages.

would this fit within the gameplay design constraints already present?
this is less a feature request or suggestion necessarily, but as a community maybe we could come up with some possibilities to pick and choose from should chris and mark care to.

please leave some ideas, feedback, and scenarios you may have rattling around your mind.

what about being brought in as a specialist warden to straighten out a prison with inherent problems?
how about having to hold out for a certain length of time against increasingly difficult odds until a threat has passed (like time between guard reinforcements, or materials deliveries (a holdup in food deliveries))?

Prisons from different historical setting is where it's at. As long as it remains historically accurate.

I'd love to see the ability to load different sorts of prisons - historical prisons such as alcatraz and Pennsylvania State, as well as various modern prisons of various types (open layout county jail, supermax prison, etc). You could then have various scenarios for each prison, (increase capacity to X, get needs under some threshold, etc) and global scenarios (build a prison to hold x inmates in y time) where you must select the appropriate base type and then adapt it to win.

Just want to point out that a lot of this is possible right now, simply by building up the scenario you want, then putting up the save for people to play it.

To start, you'd probably want to edit in a bunch of cash, to make construction easier. Once you've built the prison as you want, start accepting prisoners, but without actually letting them into the prison, either into cells, or alternately by not having cells and letting them pile up in the delivery area. (Make sure to reset their needs occasionally as they pile up)

Something like the castle scenario would be especially easy, as all you need to do is plop down the foundations and build whatever walls you want, plus some stuff like doors, windows, trees, etc. There's no need to make the walls unmodifiable either, simply give the player a limited cash pool and there's plenty of incentive to not change the basic layout very much.

After seeing the Turtle on Steam I was tempted to make a Papillon (butterfly). This thread puts me in mind of Devil's Island. Perhaps an island map, with boats instead of trucks, might be a nice idea for IV as one of the final additions.

Psh, I was posting scenarios (as in just one) before we had this fancy-shmancy steam workshop. You kids and your cloud data distribution networks, don't understand the value of things like back when we had to download files manually, and put them into our save folders and unzip them, uphill, in the snow, both ways! Get off my lawn!
