Prisoner intake in Alpha 6

Postby Ten98 » Mon Feb 18, 2013 11:30 am

I've not played since Alpha 2, but I recently updated to Alpha 6 and am confused:

I've started a new prison (a few times now) and I keep getting 8 prisoners every day at 8am, regardless of whether I have "constant intake" turned on or off at the start when I create my prison.

The patch notes mention a way to disable prisoner intake, but I can't see that anywhere.

Any clues?

Oh yeah, I thought it was hard to find too.

You go to the prisoner menu that you get on the file with all the graphs and things, and there should be a toggle that says to accept different levels of prisoner. Toggle it to off.

It's kind of bugged though, for me when I close the intake and wait a few days it will be 16-22 prisoners coming when it's open again.

It can be easier to deal with a constant intake of 8 than get a huge amount at once sometimes.

Ok thank you, I will have another look in that menu. I did look everywhere but I must have missed that.

I do think the "Constant Intake" checkbox should be removed if it no longer serves any function.

AvariceFriend I hope I don't get that bug! if you continue to get 8 prisoners per day but they just queue up, you're just delaying the overcrowding not stopping it.

I think I liked it better in the older Alpha, where it would only send you enough prisoners to fill the cells you had available.

Prisoner intake is a crucial part of how easy / difficult the game is to play. Staying on top of 8 per day is possible, but very stressful, and means eventually you will always run out of space / the game will crash because there are too many prisoners to handle. On the flipside if the game never sends you more than you can hold, then it is too easy...

Perhaps in the final game, how many prisoners you get each day should be based on your prison rating, level difficulty, how many cells available, how many escapes in the last week, and so on. I do think there should be a maximum limit of prisoners, so that you can stop expanding at some point. You could research something in the tree to raise the maximum.

That's not a bug. You'll get a random number of prisoners every day, whether you leave your intake open or not.

It does still serve a purpose, for if you enable continous intake at the start of a new game, you won't be able to toggle your intake from the prisoner report anymore.

I agree, but unfortunately, the developers apparently don't.
