Idea! A mutual cell!

Postby MasterEggplant » Fri Jan 18, 2013 7:24 pm

Hello fellow architects!

After watching too many Oz episodes, it came to me that there should be regular cells that allow more than one prisoner.
I mean in fairly low security jails for examples there are 2-6 inmates in one cell, and even in high security ones there are usually 2 in a cell not one.
And since prisoner classification is already present in the next alpha, I think maybe they should add said cells where gen pops one can be stuffed in together, but high security will mostly be one lucky fellow in their tiny cell.

I love this idea! I think it'd be great if they had bunk beds aswell to save on space, and perhaps once they bring in workshops and jobs for prisoners to complete, they could have to be paired up for jobs from their cells :)

Generally only dangerous prisoners (solitary) are by themselves, right? I think a "normal" prison cell is atleast 1 bunkbed with 2 inmates in it. (IRL in Europe and the US)

Love it, makes sense. Solitary confinement is punishment for a reason....

I am totally with this, but I think the number of prisoners in a cell should just come down to the number of beds in the cell. Whoever is housed where should be totally up to the Prison Architect. If you wanna bunch up a big number of dangerous inmates, that should be your call. I'd really like to see bunkbeds. It is my understanding that they are fairly standard in most prisons.

I think number assigned to each cell could be changed by the player, you could designate one by one or set all. Many prisons are filled past capacity and have more prisoners than beds so a few usually sleep on the floor, I think that should be an option for more money but less happines where we COULD build beds to help prisoners be happy or you can just give a one bed cell with five people in it and they fight daily over who gets the bed or it's controlled by the alpha male of the cell.
Yes, that is a penguin with rabies. Deal with it.

Nice idea. I'd prefer it like: that many beds i put in a cell, that many inmates will be arrested there. Of course inmates of the proper classification. Question is wouldnt this lead just to a holding cell?

And the downside to this would be if they try to dig a tunnel they could cover for each other and dig faster.

Two man cells should be an option as it is quite common in many prisons. No special room designation needed, should be identified automatically as a two man cell if it is say at least 3x3 tiles and have two beds.

Whilst on the subject, perhaps also have dormitories. Not that usual here in Europe, but is all the rage in the US for the more docile prisoners. Would work more or less as a holding cell, only a certain minimum amount of beds are mandatory. Number of prisoners allowed into a dorm equals amount of beds installed.

Kinda like in Oz in the early seasons hehe...

Also to build on that, having to ability to set whom and how many to be designated in that cell will add more strategic depth to the game!
Should you cut costs and in return have more escape attempts or put all efforts into designating the cells in a smart way, and having a tidy secure prison.

Yeah, this is a great idea. You save some money, but have to deal with issues like more fights, more tunnels, and higher freedom desire.

Totally goes with the spirit and theme of the game

Game definitely needs stuff like this, because it adds depth and complexity, like tradeoffs.

More people in a cell, can have problems and them getting into fights or worse.

Having just 1 in each cell, takes more room, is more expensive, and such.

This is mandatory. There should be no hard maximum. Instead, include trade offs for increasing # of prisoners per cell.
