i have to agree... some implementation of a guard tower would be awesome. perhaps some way to help catch tunnelers? depends on how it is being implemented

If you are able to place a "no trespassing" zone, the Tower can see over a long distance a trespass and activate a alarm with a light-spot and the next guard will take care of it (arrest), but sure only if he is fast enough...
The same effect with cctv for a minor distance. And of course a Guard will also see a trespass on a "no trespassing" zone, but only quite nearby.

I've just started playing the alpha in the last couple of days and one of the first things I thought should be added was guard towers. If armed with snipers, they could be used as a last line of defence against prisoners digging out (once implemented), if the prisoner is in the guards line of sight they could try and shoot them before the prisoner makes it to the edge of the map?

Could be cool if you could designate a patrol route on the guard tower itself which would effect where your guards are watching.

This is a needed feature imo. You could set policy for guards (shoot to kill or maim) with consequences on the perception of your prison by forces outside the walls, the personal safety of your staff, and the chances of stopping runners.

You'd need an armoury as well, with further paid for training so certain guards are authorised to use weapons. This would also add interesting consequences to your prison layout. You would need an armoury to supply the towers but it would be an obvious security risk if the prisoners ever took control of it - potentially leading to a mass breakout and loss of life for your staff.

Good Ideas!

On the topic of Guard Towers, it would be nice if there was a "multi-level" aspect to buildings/constructions.

For example:
1) Set up two-thick walls that guards can patrol on.
2) Multi-Story buildings (If you do this, each story should be more expensive than the previous story)

multi-levels would be nice, but if its too dfficult to implement as a standard building option a solution as simple as the guard towers being a two story or higher unique building would also work and hopefully eliminate any z axis problems.

I think a guard tower would be a great idea! with snipers, could have multi options/ levels of security that you can choose from when its manned, like "fire on sighting" or "raise alarm but do not fire" so that you could have layers of security and if they get to the last line of defence the only option is to shoot.

What if the prisoners rise up and take control of the nukes?

make it where if you hit a prisoner with the spot light it stops them dead in their tracks.

i would put it on the edges of the prison
