Elevators

Postby rsdworker » Sat Oct 20, 2012 7:28 pm

elevators - for transport between floors

elevator parts

doors - single slide or double sliding or old fashioned pull gate or freight doors (vertical closing) also postions of doors - left or centre or right
the doors can be steel or Glass or reinforced Glass or Metal
Cars - simllar to Zone but has be installed - elevator capacity is depend on size of car - requires Thin walls and floor
motor - Motor rooms or cabinets - those needs be connected to power supply
Control panel - controls the one elevator BUT can be used for group elevators can be next to motors or at landing
Floor buttons panel - one without and one with buttons - installed on both - outside and in car
Floor indicators - useful for tracking location of elevator

door postions - rear or front or side - you can make combination - example - rear or side door

Optional items
ID panel - optional - locks out the elevator access - can be on floors or inside the car or both or attach to control panel
Battery backup power for elevators
fire proof car and doors - fire escape elevator
Floor choicer panel (stand or wall panel) to select floors without waiting

example - you have small elevator (5 people elevator) four tiles covering 3 floors
to make floor not access for speific group of prisoners - place id panel on control panel and place Lock symbol on speicifc floor door and open the specific menu and select to Lock to Zone B prisoners

if elevator loses power - its would be result of trapped prisoners but if player places a battery next to elevator motors example backup battery to make elevator go to last floor passed

this would be good example because its a customable elevator

so i have poll up for all of you so vote :)

Apart from the debate over actually having multiple floors in the first place, this seems excessive, we're playing Prison Architect not Sim Tower. I think having elevators at all would be bad in a prison, and as far as I know even in real life it is common practice to use stairs instead.

I can still hear the Sim Tower elevator sounds perfectly clearly in my head.

Such a happy sound.

Simple Elevators(?)

Postby cyberis » Sat Oct 20, 2012 8:01 pm

I like the idea of multi-floor and elevators would be OK, but only if it was a pretty simple sprite without much in the way of mechanics (open door, close door, go up/down, open door, close door) with appropriate sounds (maybe muzak). The one thing that would be interesting is if one or more prisoners and guards are in the elevator and there is a loss of power. Perfect place for a massacre. Also a guard on the take could kill the elevator and then the prisoner in "self defense." That could actually be not so simple after all but it would be an interesting new element if IV can pull off multiple floors.

not all prisons have elevators BUT some for disabled access - the newer built have elevators but some older prisons have elevators between staff areas

I want to be able to set up the elevator controller, like the per-unit inertia, PID loop, motor overload settings, and soforth!

Not really.

Unless you were playing it on a 486/66. I swear that game ran slowly even on a Pentium III.

I can't see anything remotely good about this elevators idea.

I am all for multi story prisons in PA.

However I think that elevators are a bit overkill, especially if we are talking about only getting 2 level prisons. If on the other hand they were to do 10 story prisons or even higher, then perhaps having "staff only" elevators that would speed up the process of getting to the levels of the prison that the staff or guards need to get to might be a good thing.

But when I think of a real prison I think that they try to keep places where you have to travel to as in the open as is possible so that the prisoners can be monitored on an almost constant basis. I'm sure that in todays world of political correctness there must at least be some really new prisons that have elevators for the disabled, but in general I would imagine it's not that common, and the disabled that get sent to prison get placed on floor level due to it being the only accessible level that the inmate can conveniently access.

Think what could go on inside of an elevator that is free of those stinkin' guards prying eyes... Three prisoners go into an elevator but only 2 come out alive... Two prisoners go into the elevator and hit the emergency stop button for 10 minutes, what went on during those 10 minutes one has to wonder... 3 prisoners and 1 guard go into the elevator when all of a sudden the electrics flip the breaker, when power is restored 3 prisoners exit the elevator alone.

Anyway, for 2 level prisons I think that elevators are just plain overkill, unless it's the only possible way to move inmates and staff between floors I just don't see the need for elevators.

Just my opinion.

I like the idea of elevators, but I think a multi-story prison would be awful.

But, elevators should definitely be in the game. Staff could use them to store things in, like mops and buckets and bits of pipe.

So you like cookies, but baked goods are awful? :P

It'd be interesting if multi-level jails were implemented. Stairs would be a nice bottleneck for prisoners, while staff-only elevators would expedite things like that. Of course, you could then also have prisoners who were jailed for being hackers/prisoners with electronics knowledge could access the elevators.
