Is lighting moddable?

Postby City Builder » Sat Oct 20, 2012 2:07 pm

Hi,

So, overall an enjoyable game but one problem that I'm having is that it's just so darn dark at night. I place lamps around the prison to try to at least light up the pathways but the problem is that it's either still too dark, or I have to place so many maps that it just looks ridiculous.

I've tried raising the gamma or brightness of my monitor, however although I don't get the dark bits to be much more than dark bits, it does in fact help, however it also hurts as then all the light areas of the prison are pretty much looking washed out as they are then so bright.

So I'm just wondering if there is some sort of a light map that the game depends on that I could alter in photo shop that would change how dark it is at night, and or some way of modding the light that is emmited around the lamps when I place them, it seems either of those options (if they are available to mod) might help to alleviate how dark everything is in my game when it's nighttime in the game.

Thanks for reading.

Having played the "STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl" games, I've noticed that everything in the game is way too bright at night. Is there anyway to do what he said to make everything darker?

I have the same problem as you City Builder. I'd love if the workmen had floodlights for night work.

Whilst I like "night mode" as a concep - in games like Sim City and Rollercoaster Tycoon I've always made use of the "always daytime" modes when sandboxing.

I don't see "always daytime" working as the prisoners have a regime to stick to. A continuous daytime lighting override would work but it's a shitty solution to the problem.

Wtf has it got to do with the regime? All we're doing is changing a graphics option so it's light all the time. Something that's pretty standard in similar other games.

Given the style of the game, I think some people are expecting far too realistic and detailed simulation, instead of a fun game with a theme.

I gave you two options. One actually stays in daytime. The other just looks like daytime.

PS. Both suck.

The "always daytime" suggestions was purely referring to the lightning options (as per other games) I didn't mean for it to actually always actually be daytime, sorry, should have been more clear.

Okay, well I opened the data to see if perhaps there is an image that is used as the light map (not sure that's really the correct word for this) but did not see one, I altered the glow.bmp file but that appears to be the glow around the cursor at night, but did not find anything that could change the overall lighting or the individual lamp lighting when we place down lights on the map.

If anybody comes across anything on this front please chime in.

Thanks

I haven't actually tried it, but could you not make glow.bmp so large that it fills the map, regardless of where the mouse is? If it works, it'd be atleast a decent temporary fix until later developments.
