Optimal Room Tilings - Fun with issues 213 and 214
Optimal Cell Tilings, or How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love Issues 213 and 214.

This isn't even the optimal cell tiling. I have a better one. I'll post it once I've mathematically proved no one else can do even better.

Pfft. Solve my shittily written grant from alpha 1, then we can talk.
Furthermore! Challenge fucking accepted.

And for what it's worth, I think you could do better if you (rather ironically) made them bigger.
Yeah. As I said, that's not my best arrangement. I just need a bit of time to build a large area with my more tightly packed one.
Edit: I'm struggling to work out how to properly fill an area with my one, without resorting to map editing. It's difficult to connect tiles without causing them to then touch other rooms.
My first test was... a bit shit. In one 22 by 18 space, I have 66 cells crammed in using the basic obvious means. In another identically proportioned space, 68.
I think I can build on the concept.

1 cell every 5 blocks. I think. I'm not good at counting.
But I can do better...

Honestly don't think I can do better than this. I believe this is 4.5 tiles per cell? I don't even know.
The absolutely limit is 4 tiles per cell, but it's pretty easy to prove that isn't constructable.
You can build a diagonal row of size 4x+3 by 2. Inside it, you can build a diagonal row of 4(x-1)+3 by 2. Inside that...
Bearing in mind I've obviously picked dimensions that don't fucking work (and that I screwed setting it up massively), here's what I mean:

We're basically removing everything but the corners of a room before building another one. Because the game never forgets which squares belong to which room, even when you split them and because the game has a very forgiving way of measuring the rooms, this actually works.Dwkeller wrote:How are you making those cells separate? I have a building with 20 cells, and everytime I make the "room cell" touch, it makes it one bigger room, and just one cell no matter how many beds or whatnot? Thanks
