[suggestion] Room wiring

Postby paktsardines » Wed Oct 10, 2012 3:44 am

Currently lights and wiring go in automatically after a room is built.

Maybe it's some latent OCD in me, but sometimes I would really like to be able to do my own wiring and place my own lights (although I know lights have been suggested already). That way I can do silly things like cross wires and short-out rooms and maybe large sections of my prison :)

Also, I would like to provide wiring to other things too, like TVs. If you consider that roof wiring for lights is kind of the same thing as power cables for TVs, then I think this kind of makes sense. It'd certainly provide an incentive for not putting TVs in the shower.

Of course I think the do-it-yourself method shouldn't be enforced, just an toggleable option.

And how is this feature going to improve the gameplay ?
The theme is Prison Architect, not Electrician Architect.

Different people find different things fun.

Having prisoners run rampant while I try to reconnect my shorted room, or occasionally electrocuting prisoners and staff because I wired things wrongly is my idea of fun.

And, if you don't find it fun, then you can toggle the option off. :)

Lights are a buyable and moveable thing. You can move lights wherever you want to. If it's outside, they become posts. Inside they're bulbs. As for the wiring bit, I think it's more or less streamlined. The workers automatically wire everything up for you.

And you can totally have a TV in the shower with you... My prisoners love it! Also, I totally ordered bacon-scented shampoo... so that's why they smell like fried meat...

i find it too hard to feed all my prisoners. toggle off hunger.

i find it too hard to x/y/z. toggle off x/y/z.

spending a lot of development time on whole parts of the game that people will turn off because they don't like it really does not seem, to me at least, to be a great use of time/resources.

the current electrical system is pretty good in my opinion, and this is alpha build 1. there is really no limit to where it could potentially go - but any part of the game like this that can simply be toggled off just sounds like a very bad idea to me.

its a decent idea but would be very time consuming process doing that and most people would not be bothered to do it.

Possibly a decent mod idea but doubt it can work effectively built into the game.

I quite like it :)

It would be simple enough to have it as an "advanced wiring" option.

The more complicated/closer to realism the better for me.

From what I can tell, this advanced wiring stuff is already in the game, only it's done automatically for you so you don't realise it. I think there's minimal work in implementing manual wiring - certainly less work than was spent implementing the automatic wiring.
