Story mode vs Sandbox mode

Postby Webarchitect » Sat Oct 06, 2012 3:06 am

From what I heard from the developers about those 2 modes I figure I'm more of a Sandbox mode kind of player.
However I would like to see more depth and story elements in the sandbox mode. Like the prisoners bios. Different prisoners and staff attributes, etc.

What kind of player are you?

I prefer sandbox as I get more freedom usually to build the stuff I want and try out different things. Though I'd like to see in sandbox mode a way to have some sort of random scenarios that can happen, not like a true mission but one where you get a detailed story of what this prisoner did and what happens to him. This would be especially nice with death row characters so you have the option to understand why they're beeing killed not simply another pixel blob about to head to the morgue.

Well the tutorial is the only campaign chapter that is available right now.

I'd like to see both, simply because sometimes Sandbox gets a bit boring, and its nice to have goals and something to strive towards with a story/missions/scenarios option. Gives the game alot more playability for me.

I'd definately want both, though for now I really DON'T want story mode. I'd faaaar rather have the completed story mode at release rather than bits and bobs until then. Quite happy with a sandbox for now.

I'm more of a sandbox player. But I would really like it to have sort of challenges like "make a prison that holds 100 prisoners" and like that what could be achieved. They wouldn't be like story but they make the sandbox a bit more interesting.

Story mode vs Sandbox mode

Story mode can hook me into sandbox mode, but sandbox mode is what I actually end up playing for months at a time (assuming I like the game, obviously). The stories I'll play maybe once or twice to completion. Bang for my buck is in the sandbox.

Having 'goals' would be nice. Also say the tech tree evolves with the 'story' aspect.

The prison doesn't need, say, a foremen for while, but then something happens and one is required.

It would have to be in steps though, and drawn out a little bit.

also is there a point to building an 'old sparky'? Do prisoners ever get executed in the current sandbox? If not, there's no point in wasting 5K on it.
