[Feature Request] Keep units on screen

Postby SlashLife » Sat Sep 29, 2012 6:40 pm

Reproduction:
Start building a pipe perpendicular to the edge of the map.
Use WASD to extend the pipe beyond the size of two screens.

Result:
The numeric measurement of the pipe scrolls out of the screen as the pipe grows longer.

Expected result:
The numeric measurement may move on the screen, but should always be kept within the viewport.

(The same may hold true for the costs display.)

You start dragging a new pipe. In the middle of it its length appears: 1m, 2m, 5m, 9m, 15m, as it gets longer.
Let's say you start a new pipe at the top of your screen. Your screen height fits a 20m pipe, so you pull the pipe over the full 20m. But instead of building this pipe just now, you press "S" to scroll down and make the pipe even longer.

As the pipe gets longer, the middle of it slowly moves out of your screen and with it the information how long it is.

But thanks for your input, maybe I'll make screenshots later to clarify the issue.

If you're asking for the dimensions of the construction to be written next to the cursor or in some kind of status bar (instead of in the middle of the plan - that could be off camera), then yes I agree.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Thank you! :)
