[Translation] Translation template and list of translations

Postby SlashLife » Sat Sep 29, 2012 6:25 pm

I prepared a translation template which includes the translation aliases in the text to help translators understanding the context of the text they translate.

Until an official repository is created, I also plan on gathering the finished (or ongoing) translations (if given permission) and assemble them on http://trashbin.slashlife.org/prison-architect/
(At Introversion staff: This directory is not publicly linked; however, if you don't like translation files floating around "outside", just delete this post and give me a notice and I will take it down.)

If you would like to see your translation in this list, send me a PM or mail me: simon@stienen.name
(Please accept that I may not be able to check my mail right away or even once per day; I will upload it ASAP and reply to you with the URL)

Of course you could also upload your translation elsewhere and just reply to this thread with a link. :p

Translations so far: FR NO

(More translations may be found at http://devwiki.introversion.co.uk/pa/index.php/Mods#Translations)

Using an application for translation management might be a lot nicer.

Seeing as MediaWiki is being used for the Wiki, Translate [1] might be a good option

Get nice side effects that if you modify the English, you can have the translations marked as needing update

As well as getting a list of untranslated strings ;)

lighthaze wrote:In my experience, community-wide translation don't really work out that good. I have led translations teams before and the skill level of different translators is just too different. In the end there really needs to be one person who makes the decisions and keeps the translations consistent. Still, this certainly is a nice idea and thumbs up for the effort.

Works great if you do it correctly. And peer review translations too. [2]

You can't upload translation files to the wiki.
The wiki is harder to access than the forum.
And you can't upload translation files to the forum, either.

So either you'll force people to write endless posts, pasting the entirety of their translation file - or you give them the chance to upload it somewhere else - preferrably making an easily accessible list of them.

Just get the Introversion guys to enable upload of .txt files (hell, they've already enabled exe, zip and prison), and you can. But that's still crappy "version control"

But like I say, the Translate extension was designed for this

Hell, using a public github account would probably make more sense.

I'm trying to translate into Spanish, but can't get (any) language files to work on PA in my Mac.
I've searched the forums but couldn't find any instructions on how to use translation files on the Mac, any chance it would involve .lproj files? (I think not!)

A proper bug tracker is on its way. I would assume that translation tickets are created in it with files attached.

But ISO 8859-1.....

And i know it is difficult (almost impossible) to put Chinese words in to normal text field

Stavo per iniziare anche io la traduzione. Hai già fatto qualcosa oppure hai abbandonato l'idea?

Not translated at all

Postby Fabioguar » Mon Dec 24, 2012 1:24 pm

Translating english.txt the game is not translated completly.
A lot of game terms remain in english.

For example all the prisoner's needs remain in english.

Is there another file to translate?

How can I translate the CEO letter?

The CEO letter is an image, so you'll need photoshop or gimp.
