Z-levels is something that is very hard to do well from a graphical point of view. I think it'd take too much devtime for it to be worth it. There is so much else that needs work first that I think this should be very low priority even though I'd like it if it was done well.

I agree with everything except this. Just make any higher z-levels blue tiles (like the sky) or very blurry Z-level below or something. Dirt/stone on lower z-levels. As long as it's based on solid placement logic I think it will be a key feature, even if nigh-infinite map size is allowed.

Just what I was going to say :P
Dwarf Fortress handled Z-levels in a 2D-environment very well, and it's not like I'm asking for mountains and rolling hills. Just a way to build up or dig down.

Even if DF handled it well doesn't mean it is something that is easy done.
It'd require a lot of development time and are you really sure you'd rather want Z-levels than a bug free and smooth game?

I'd prefer BOTH Z levels and a bug free, smooth game. If I understand you aren't on the dev team, why don't you let them answer the question about how feasible it is to develop.

So you are someone to say who is allowed to have opinions or not? y u anti democratic?

I am a game developer and from experience I know, if you want to make something smooth and solid, it is all about prioritizing. If you make IV think Z-levels is so important then they might try to implement it and I think that'd be a bad decision.
These are of course my thoughts but as the democratic, rationalistic and intelligent individuals we are we all understand that this is just an opinion.. wether someone agrees or not is up to them and noone but IVs crew/moderators have anything to say about what we are not allowed to say.

Now of course I could put myself at the same level as yourself and tell you to go hide in whatever dictatorship you come from but I wont.. since there is no real point acting like a rude twat.

Nope! I build on only one square. It's rather hard.

I am a long-standing member of this community and I know, that IV developers already have a plan, they know what kind of game they want to make, and while they do read every suggestion we put in the forums, it is completely their decision to implement our ideas or not.

Z-levels would be a very big change and make the gameplay extremely differently than it is now. My guess is IV already knows whether or not there will be Z-levels and nothing any of us say could sway them on that point.
