How do you build a medical ward?

What do you have to research to unlock medical wards? I have "Health" researched already, so I can hire doctors, but I can't designate a room as a medical ward. The icon is grayed out and trying to select it does nothing.

Is this a bug or is there something I'm missing?

You need to a hire a doctor first before the room type unlocks.

Hire doctors, build beds, profit.

For each vacant bed, guards will escort hurt prisoners to the ward - if you don't have enough beds to fill capacity, you can order doctors manually to heal a person. However not while said person is being escorted or escorting someone.

You don't - if anything it is an expense. The only way you make money while running your prison is the daily payout for every prisoner in your prison as well as the passive income from the workshops.

Yea, they aren't properly implemented. But they yield income. In a weird kind of way.
