Trying to understand the basics.

Postby StrixVaria » Thu Sep 27, 2012 1:23 pm

I took a look at the alpha map that Chris Delay put on the wiki, and I can't figure out what's keeping the prisoners, you know, in the prison.

None of the doors leading out from the yard to the great beyond are set to Staff Only. The prisoners should be able to just up and walk out of the prison. How's that work? What's going on?

That intrigued me too. I think the first door you build ends up being flagged as the "front door", so it's staff only regardless of what you set it to.

Yeah i kinda thing that when set to straff only, that your guards should have to open the door and sort of escort or walk all the prisoners to canteen and stuff like that, having them just being able to open the door by themselves is a bit silly and odd, and yeah they just escape the prison lol, or run all over the place.

when i set it to staff only they wont get out of holding cell and chaos breaks loose.

Sometimes the guards don't care to close the doors, some prisoners escaped that way.

I've had dozens of prisoners escape by just walking up to my front gate and waiting for some staff member to walk through. The overlay always says they are Sitting, which apparently is what they do when they want to borrow the Warden's office chair. Maybe next time I shouldn't build my office wing outside the secure sector and it'll prevent some of these escapes.

So I guess they can't open the door even though it's set that everyone can open it? That's...strange.

Just set up two doors like an airlock at any points where staff need to leave, not had any prisoners escape since doing this

It can happen - prisoners will try to sneak past locked doors by following staff. And riots can glitch out the door permissions. I've had plenty of prisoners caught in "airlocks" in my last prison.

Wow I'm lucky they never tried to do that (well with the front door), but they are doing that (walk throught 2 "staff only" door) just to walk from the canteen to the yard when this may not be the fastest road to there.
Each time I tought they would steal something and then start a fight but no :D

Prisoners escaping

Postby MrNosy » Fri Sep 28, 2012 10:06 pm

I really think that if you set the door to staff only, then if a prisoner tries to walk out when the prison officer does, they take them straight back in. Usually the guards don't do anything about them escaping which is really odd as this obviously wouldn't happen in the real word! For me this is really really important and should be implemented quickly.

Something that the devs should really consider is if a guard is in a room full of prisoners by himself then he can get attacked and maybe knocked out. At which point his keys can get stolen and then the prisoners can escape. This kind of key mechanic seems to make more sense. What do you guys think. :?:
