Game does not start & licence keys

Postby jonny109 » Thu Sep 27, 2012 12:42 pm

Hi all (again),

I posted in another topic last night which seems to have disappeared. The problem I am having is that when I tried and install the game all that is displayed is a black screen and the only way to get out of this is to do a hard restart of my computer

Debug file:
alpha-1 pc vanilla compiled 10:59:56, Sep 25 2012
Loading Preferences from C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\Local/Introversion/Prison Architect/preferences.txt
Failed to find C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\Local/Introversion/Prison Architect/preferences.txt
Suggested resolution : 1920 x 1080

Also when I received the order confirmation email I received no key only this message:
In order to use this software you will require the following license keys:
1-PA-30-BasePack: contact merchant for license

Can anybody help I really just want to play this game!!

**Update:**
I found a possible solution to one of my problems with the black screen. I disabled my antivirus AVG 2013 and my Comodo Firewall which worked the game started and ran perfectly

looking now, the .exe was in my virus guard (Sophos) and seen as suspicious. Logs say the process was killed. However It's still killing it even after authorizing the files

Having exactly the same problem here but I'm a little miffed because I followed all the suggestions above and I still can't run the game. Absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to do now.

its worth having a look in the windows error logs in the Event Viewer. Check the application logs. Mine had mentioned of Prison Architect and mentioned a failing .dll file. So i googled the .dll and a whole host of forums from different games had ideas about how to get things going again.

I dont know how tech savvy any of you are, but error logs in windows are

right click My Computer
Click Manage
on the left is Event Viewer
Depending on your version of Windows it looks a little different but look for application errors.

Maybe that will help you. My trouble is that the updated driver now doesn't see my monitor as anything other than a piece of crap. It's a TV with VGA input so it's always been a bizarre resolution but now im stuck on 1024x768 which looks god awful. Long story long (haha) i've ended up ordering a new monitor haha

I haven't been able to solve this problem even disabling comodo, I have however been able to do a workaround by running it in comodo sandbox if that helps any.

don't you need your licence key to download the game and get access to this sub-forum?

What I found to work is create the preferences.txt file and add these 3 lines to it:

ScreenW 1024
ScreenH 768
ScreenWindowed true

It is located in C:\users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Introversion\Prison Architect

I then saw the detection warning from Comodo and I was able to answer yes.
