*snap*

Am I the only one getting a bit tired of people getting their knickers in a twist because there's adult stuff in an adult game? REALLY?! Although for the record if the polaroids in this game are explicit to you, look up some porn. It will blow your mind. (hehe, blow. Geddit? They can't all be winners.)

Putting on my serious hat for a second though, why is there all of this concern about "the kids" for one thing? It's NOT a kids game!
This is leading up to something that's been a major concern for me lately, and that's the issue of alpha funding leading to the game being watered down. The reason I bought the game was because of all the articles I'd heard about it, from people's experiences with the game so far to interviews with Chris and Mark (or just one or the other, I forget). And the biggest thing that caught my attention was the fact that they wanted to create a stark commentary on the prison system. You know, like how Defcon was with nuclear war?
But more and more I've seen people who are getting cold feet to the idea. Some people, for whatever reason, are getting uncomfortable with the idea that this game will be any more than a prison themed, er, Theme Hospital. Why?

Is it the graphical style? I will point you to Edward Mcmillen if that's the case.
Is it the possibility that kids may play it? Well honestly that's down to the parents to deal with, not us.
Is it just the idea that a video game will be trying to drive home the point that the prison system, for the most part, is a shitty horrible thing and don't want to be reminded of that? Some research should have told you that this is the tone that they were going for. If that didn't appeal to you, why did you buy into the alpha?

As far as I can tell, Chris and Mark are ignoring people who are getting offended by imaginary penises (seriously, the images are ALREADY CENSORED) and the possible reminders that yes, prisons can be nasty little holes. I am eternally glad about this. But if more and more people are going to kick up a fuss, I'm worried they may buckle and water down the artistic vision to keep the game selling and viable. I wouldn't blame them, they've gotta eat after all, but I would be severely disappointed.

What's really shocked me is the kind of behaviour people (rightly) berate publishers for is being displayed here, when the whole point of not going to a publisher is that you're not beholden to anyone. You're free to take your game wherever you want, and the idea that people who I would have thought are passionate about gaming would want to stifle the creative vision of the the devs in the name of "safety" and "marketability" is insane.

EDIT: Oh, sorry, I didn't realise this was a necro'd thread. It popped up with a new post and I didn't realise it was so old, or long already. :P That being said I've STILL noticed this.

The fact that this game is actually in an alpha form and has no age rating currently seems to escape some of your minds. As the game is in alpha it is subject to improvement which could mean changing some of the graphics. Additionally, because it has no age rating means that the images that are discussed here are actually appropriate for the game which means that for the audience that the game is open to is, well everyone! However if you find the images inappropiate for your child to view, don't buy them the game! Simple as that. If you are worried about your child buying it themselves, keep your cards safe! And if you trust them enough to allow them to have their own cards or paypal accounts, then I'm pretty sure that you won't mind them seeing something that is not even mildly pornographic, in fact its probably something that have seen in the past-in real life- when they have walked into your bedroom at 3 AM after having a bad dream...

Exactly, this game is not rated because
1) Things may change.
2) they want you to make your OWN decisions

Last time i checked, having a game with the word prison in the title is not a light hearted game.
If you dont like it, your problem, shoud have read the the title. now stop complaining.

That's precisely why I'll never let my kids read Moby Dick, watched Dick Tracey, or make friends with anyone called Richard. That last one goes without saying.

I know, I've already seen it and it boggled my mind then too. ;)

But lots of these forums are boggling my mind lately. Censoring censored images should almost be expected really!

I agree that maybe there could be an option to remove them, if someone felt uncomfortable with the image content.

Optional stuff, people, OPTIONAL.

Make it easy, there should be a "parental control" option to limit adult content, done.
