How do I start with more money?
I start with 10k, and I can barely get an office/kitchen/canteen/holding cell going before running out of cash.

Reports in bottom right.
Grants.
Get money get paid.
I also hadn't discovered grants!
I literally just managed to get a working prison for 16 people up and running with the starting cash - but quickly hit a wall.
Prisoners were killing each other, some escaped (this is when I discovered door permissions, which are a really nice touch!). It was chaos and I must admit I wondered how on earth I could have been any more successful.
It sounds like this might be the key! I only wish it wasn't the start of the work day...

.prison files saves to
Code: Select all
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Introversion\Prison Architect\saveson windows
then you need to open the .prison file with a text editor, change the "finance" value to whatever you like, load the save up and bam, mo' money.
Also note that workshops bring income. I've not found any way of using them, and no object seems suitable for a workshop, but just having it provides income by itself - and larger workshops provide more income.
They don't have any requirements besides being at least 5x5 either, so use any spare plot of land, indoors or not, in your perimeter fence or otherwise.
Don't go overboard with it though, as the game gets noticeably slower with a large room present.
